MATTHEW CHAPTER THIRTEEN QUESTIONS
  1. Read Matthew 13:1-9. Where do you think this took place? Which lake? Near which town?
  2. Why do you think the people came to see Jesus?
  3. Why do you think Jesus got into a boat to speak?
  4. The word “parable” comes from the Greek parabole, which means “placing beside,” as in a comparison. A parable is a brief illustrative story that teaches a lesson or makes a specific point, usually drawing from situations or images that are common to the listener.
  5. They describe both the ______ of preaching God’s ______ and the _______ conditions that will exist on earth in regard to God’s ______ and _______ until Christ returns. This work will take place particularly through His ______, which is the visible aspect of His _______ on ________.  (Answers found on page 72 of E-book). 
  6. In most of these parables, Christ teaches that there will be ______ and ______ in His visible ______ on earth.   9. Why do you think that the disciples asked Jesus why He taught in parables? (Matthew 13:10-15).
  10. What is the meaning of the parable about the Sower and the seed?
  11. What is the seed?
  12. Who is the sower / farmer?
  13. What is the meaning of the seed that fell along the path and the birds came and ate it up?
  14. What is the meaning of the seed that fell among rocky places? 
  15. How can we help water and nourish people who sprout and start to grow in their spiritual life?
  16. What is the meaning of the seed falling among thorns which choked the plants?
  17. What do you think we could do to make sure that the seed continues to grow?
  18. What would make you more fruitful?
  19. How do we find good soil?  
  20. What is the good soil like? Describe someone you believe has good soil, but the seed is not yet planted in that soil. (Who ae the kind of people who may be open to the gospel?) How do we plant seed there?
  21. From this parable, the four reactions the seed encountered on different grounds are the four ways people respond to the gospel. They are?
  22. What was the solution of the farmer?
  23. Why did he not want to uproot the weeds?
  24. Matthew 13:36-43 What was the meaning of the parable of the weeds?
  25. Who planted the good seed?
  26. What does the field represent?
  27. What does the good seed represent?
  28. What do the weeds represent?
  29. Who sowed the weeds?
  30. What is the harvest and when is it?
  31. Who does the harvesting?
  32. What will happen to the righteous after the unbelievers have been weeded out? 
  33. What should unbelievers be doing about what they just heard? What should believers be doing? (Verse 43)
  34. What do you think Jesus is trying to say with the parable of the tiny mustard seed growing to become a tree?
  35. Do you think the small things that you do are insignificant? What can your good deeds and attitudes produce?
  36. Does this give you a sense of the importance of what God is calling you to do in kingdom building?​

MATTHEW CHAPTER FOURTEEN QUESTIONS
  1. By whom and why had John the Baptist been arrested?
  2. What had Herod wanted to do to John but didn't? Why?
  3. What does that tell us about Herod? 
  4. Whay did Herod the tetrarch think that Jesus was John the Baptist resurrected. 
  5. What does this say about Jesus' ministry? 
  6. How do you think Herod felt when he heard about the miracles Jesus was doing? 
  7. What led to the eventual death of John?
  8. What does Herodias' request tell us about her?
  9. What do you think this request would do for her daughter?
  10. Do you think the death of John the Baptist got rid of the problem, guilt and resolved the issue of an illegal marriage? 
  11. Do you think this kind of barbaric action could happen today?
  12. What was Jesus' response to hearing about John's death?
  13. What motivated Jesus to help the people who were looking for Him? What was His response?
  14. How many people had come to this lonely place to see Jesus? 
  15. Why do you think they followed Jesus to the other side of the lake? 
  16. What was the disciples' response to the crowds after it was getting late? 
  17. What was Jesus' response to the needs of the crowd?
  18. How did the disciples respond to Jesus' command?
  19. What did Jesus do to take care of the needs of the crowd?
  20. Can Jesus multiply the gifts that we give to others?
  21. Does that motivate you to give even more?
  22. How much was left over?
  23. What does this tell us about the leftovers? Any application Here?
  24. Why do you think Jesus was in a hurry to get the disciples off?
  25. What did Jesus do after He dismissed the crowd?
  26. What ae some lessons the disciples could have learned from this experience of Jesus feeding the 5000+ People?
  27. Why was Jesus praying alone? What kind of issues do you think Jesus was praying about? 
  28. Do you think Jesus knew what was going to happen that night? How long was He praying?
  29. Why do you think Jesus waited until near dawn before He went out to help them?
  30. How long would they have been out at sea, most of the time battling a storm?
  31. What might have gone through their minds as the disciples battled the storm? What would you think if you saw something coming to you if you were in a boat on the lake?
  32. How did Jesus respond to their cries of fear?
  33. Have you ever cried out in fear?
  34. Do you think that Jesus can calm our fears? Do you have any fears? What gets rid of fear?
  35. Who spoke up in response to Jesus and what did he ask? Why do you think He asked that question? 
  36. How did Jesus respond to Peter?
  37. What lesson did Peter learn about stepping out in faith? What can we learn from this about stepping out in faith?
  38. What was the response of the disciples in the boat to the miracle they saw?
  39. Do you worship God when you see a miracle or are you just in awe? What kind of miracles do we fail to worship God for?
  40. Even though the disciples obeyed Jesus and got into the boat, they faced a storm. Can we face storms too in life even if we are obedient to the Lord? How did God honor the disciple's obedience? Does God honor our obedience too? 
  41. What happened when word got out where Jesus was?
  42. What happened to those who came and who were sick?
  43. Could that happen today? What is Jesus' real desire to do in our life?
  44. How about on a personal level - What is our motive for coming to God or asking for help from God? Is it to get what we want for ourselves or are we willing to have God do in our lives what He wants to do? 
  45. If you had to summarize what Matthew teaches in this chapter what would the main points be?
