  1. Matthew 27:1-10. What was the verdict of the "trial" and how did they go about making it happen?
  2. What did Judas do when he saw that Jesus was condemned to die?
  3. What did the chief priests do with the money? What was the significance of what they did?
  4. What can we learn about sin from the story of Judas for our own lives?
  5. Matthew 27:11-26. Jesus only answered one question that the chief priests asked him, did he answer any questions that Pilate asked him?
  6. What options did Pilate give the chief priests? Why did he even give them an option? Which one did they choose?
  7. What do you know about the man the people chose to release over Jesus? 
  8. What ominous warning did Pilate receive and from whom?
  9.  Do you think Pilate wanted to have Jesus crucified? Based on what evidence?

  11. Matthew 27:27-31. If Pilate knew Jesus was innocent, why did he have Jesus flogged and hand him over to be crucified? Why did he let Jesus be treated so cruelly? Is that justice? What are some of the other cruel things they did to Jesus?

  13. What an appropriate name for the place where people were crucified. What does Golgotha mean?
  14. What did the soldiers offer Jesus? Did He accept it?

  16. How did those who viewed Jesus respond to Him? 
  17. Matthew 27:45-56. What all happened while Jesus was on the cross that caused the centurion to come to the conclusion that Jesus was the Son of God?
  18. What is your response to the Jesus who was nailed to the cross because of the sins of all people?
  19. 19. With the way you are living now, will you be able to, like Jesus, on your death bed be able to give the victor's shout that you have finished the work God gave you to do?

  1. Matthew 25:1-13. What is the kingdom of heaven like?
  2. Who do the 10 virgins represent?
  3. Why were 5 of the virgins considered wise? why were the other 5 considered foolish? 
  4. Why didn't the wise virgins share their oil with the foolish virgins?
  5. Who does the bridegroom represent?
  6. How long would it be before the bridegroom came? What might those who are waiting for Him be tempted to do?

MATTHEW CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX STUDY QUESTIONS
  1. Matthew 26:1-5. What did Jesus announce would happen during the Passover?
  2. Where did the chief priests and the elders of the people get together and why?
  3. When would it not be a good idea to implement their plan? Why?
  4. Matthew 26:6-13. Where was Jesus visiting when He was in Bethany? What happened while Jesus was there?
  5. What was the response of the disciples?
  6. What was the response of Jesus to the disciple's indignation?
  7. Some opportunities only come once in a lifetime and if we lose that opportunity to do something lovely, it is missed forever. Have you ever missed a golden opportunity to do something kind or lovely, but missed it because you were too practical?
  8. Like this woman, it is a wonderful thing to be able to leave the memory of a lovely deed. Are you leaving memories of kind and loving deeds you have done?
  9. Matthew 26:14-16. What was Judas' response to Jesus being anointed by the woman with perfume?
  10. Why do you think Judas would have betrayed Jesus?
  11. Matthew 26:17-30. When the disciples asked Jesus where they should make preparations to eat the Passover meal, what answer did He give them?
  12. What unexpected announcement did Jesus make when he was reclining at the table eating the Passover with the Twelve? How did the disciples respond to this announcement?
  13. How did Jesus let them know who it was? What did he say about that man?
  14. Like Judas we can keep our sins a secret from everyone else, but not from God. Do you have any sins that you are trying to keep a secret that need to be openly and with repentance brought before the Lord for forgiveness?
  15. Judas had a terrible plan and Jesus could have blasted him in front of others, He could have had him killed, or He could have done a number of other terrible things to Judas. But what did Jesus do instead?
  16. Have you recently made a calculated plan to sin? How did Jesus confront you? What did you do about it?
  17. What are some of the differences and similarities between the Passover Feast and our communion?
  18. While they were eating the Passover meal, Jesus introduced a new way of understanding the Passover. What was it and what is it called today?
  19. What is a covenant? What was the significance of this covenant?
  20. What kind of hymn would the Jews have sung at a Passover Feast? (Read Psalms 113-118 and Psalm 136) Why do you think these hymns would have been chosen to sing at this time?
  21. Matthew 26:31-35. What did Jesus tell the disciples at the Mount of Olives?
  22. What was Peter's bold response to Jesus' statement?
  23. What astonishing statement did Jesus tell Peter? How did Peter feel about that prediction?
  24. Matthew 26:36-46. Why did Jesus and his disciples go to Gethsemane?
  25. Here Jesus had to learn the lesson that we all need to learn some place along the way - how to accept what we cannot understand and to learn to say, "Thy will be done." Has there been a point in your life when you had to learn these lessons?
  26. What did Jesus' prayer consist of? What was the posture He used? How many times did He pray that? 
  27. What were the disciples doing while Jesus was praying? What were they supposed to be doing? Why?
  28. Have you ever experienced a time when others failed you and didn't give the comfort and support you needed? What lesson did God teach you at that time?
  29. What did Jesus do after he finished praying?
  30. Matthew 26:47-56. Who came with Judas to the Garden of Gethsemane? How did he greet Jesus? Why?
  31. When Jesus was arrested what did one of the disciples do? Who was it? What was Jesus' response to him? 
  32. Was Jesus powerless to get away from the crowd that came to arrest Him? Could He have gotten away? If so, then why didn't He?
  33. What was the response of the disciples to all this commotion?
  34. Matthew 26:57-68. Where did the crowd that arrested Jesus take Him? For what purpose?
  35. How did Jesus respond to the charges? Were they true?
  36. What was the only question Jesus answered? What was His answer?
  37. What was the response to Jesus' answer?
  38. When had Jesus' "trial" by the chief priests and elders of the people taken place? Why do you think they chose that time of day? Is that when normal trials take place or was that even legal what they did?
  39. What is your response to Jesus?
  40. Matthew 26:69-75. Who was the only disciple that dared to check up on Jesus? How did he do that & why?
  41. What did Peter end up doing? How did he feel about that?
  42. Can we really point a finger at Peter for what he did? Would we have done any differently if we had been in that situation?

MATTHEW CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE STUDY QUESTIONS
  1. Matthew 23:1-12.  What were Jesus' biggest issues with the teachers of the law and the Pharisees?  
  2. What was Jesus' warning to the people about the teachers o the law and the Pharisees? 
  3. What correction and instruction did Jesus give the teachers of the law and the Pharisees? 
  4. Seeing that the teachers of the law and the Pharisees loved to be looked up to and considered great and be given highest respect, how do you think they would have taken these instructions from Jesus? 
  5. Do you know of any people groups or religious groups that use Rabbi, father or teacher to indicate respect for someone's position? Is if okay to call our pastor, "pastor"?
  6. Matthew 23:13-32. Jesus gives 7 woes on the teachers of the law and the Pharisees. What is a woe?
  7. What is some names Jesus calls the teachers of the law and the Pharisees? 
  8. What were the Teachers of the Law and the Pharisees doing to receive the first woe? What does it mean?
  9. Do we bring people to Christ or a set of rules to follow? Do we allow the Holy Spirit to Convict individuals, or do we take the role of the Holy Spirit and give them a set of commandments to follow? 
  10. Why does Jesus give the second woe? What does it mean?
  11. Are we guilty like the Pharisees, being more concerned about bringing people to church or making them Mennonites than bringing them to Jesus Christ? Do we ever thing that our church has a monopoly on God or of His truth or that our church is the only way to God's Kingdom?
  12. What does the third woe deal with? What does it mean?
  13. Have you ever found yourself trying to get around some responsibility or promise that you made? 
  14. What reason does Jesus give for the fourth woe? What does is the meaning? 
  15. Do we think Jesus would give the same woe to us? 
  16. What does the fifth woe deal with? What would Jesus have meant with this woe?
  17. Could this kind of thing happen today in our church? Are we giving God a reason to be sad with us because people within the church look good on the outside but are greedy, not honest, proud or power hungry on the inside? 
  18. Why is the sixth woe given? What did it mean?  
  19. Do we ever portray to be something different on the outside than we are on the inside? 
  20. What is the seventh woe that is given? Why? What was the history behind this woe?
  21. Can you think of a time when your ancestors did something to hurt another group of people or other people, and we as descendants need to go back and make it right? 
  22. What are the differences between a false teacher or spiritual leader and a genuine spiritual leader?
  23. Matthew 23:37-39. What will happen to Jerusalem? What is Jesus' response to what He know will happen in the future to Jerusalem? 
  24. What can we learn about God, Jesus, man and consequences of rejecting Christ from this passage?

MATTHEW CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR STUDY QUESTIONS
There are many views and speculations about the end times and in what order things happen and who will experience the various events mentioned with Christ's return and the end of the age. Since most views can be substantiated with scripture, for this study I would encourage sticking with the text and staying focused on what is says and seeking to understand it. You many end up with more questions than this chapter will give answers for and that is okay. Keep searching and asking God for wisdom in understanding. Enjoy the study!
  1. Matthew 24:1-2. What prophecy did Jesus give His disciples? 
  2. Matthew 24:3-14. What question did this bring up in the minds of the disciples? 
  3. What does the "end of the age "mean according to Matthew? (Matthew 13:39-43, 49-50).
  4. What are some of the things that Jesus mentions that will happen before the end of the age?
  5. Matthew 24:15. What is Jesus referring to when He talks about the abomination that takes place in the holy place that causes desolation? 
  6. Matthew 24:16-28. What instructions does Jesus give His disciples if they see the abomination in the holy place happening? 
  7. What are 2 things that will happen after the abomination in the holy place? (a) There will be calamity. (b) False Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracle to deceive even the elect. 
  8. Matthew 24:28 Jesus uses another analogy to show how you can tell that the end is near. 
  9. Matthew 24:29-31. What do we learn about what will happen when the Lord returns and how He will return? 
  10. Matthew 24:32-34. Who are the signs in Matthew 24:4-25 reserved for? 
  11. What are "all these things" Jesus is referring to in Matthew 24:33?
  12. What will be near?
  13. Matthew 24:35. How does Jesus once more confirm that everything in God's Word will Happen? 
  14. Matthew 24:36-51. When will Christ return? Who knows and who doesn't know?
  15. How can we prepare or be prepared for Christ's return?
  16. Do you think it is today like it was in the day of Noah when he entered the ark? In what ways?

  • Matthew 20:17-19. This is the third time Jesus mentions to His disciples that He as on the way to the cross. What specific details did He give and what emotions did the disciples feel?
  • Matthew 20:20-28. James, John and their mother came knelt before Jesus to ask a favour of Him. What was it?
  • What did Jesus think of that idea?
  • How did the other 10 disciples respond when they found out what James and John had asked for?
  • What lesson did Jesus teach them from that experience?
  • How did Jesus sum up His life? Verse 28 What does that mean?
  • What is your goal in life, for yourself, your husband and for your children? As mothers, are we ever selfish in our motives and goals for our children? No matter what the goal what should be uppermost in our minds?

  • When Jesus gives you what you desire or ask for, what do you do? are you thankful and grateful? Do you follow Jesus even more closely and lovingly or do you just go on with life?

  1. Read Matthew 13:1-9. Where do you think this took place? Which lake? Near which town?
  2. Why do you think the people came to see Jesus?

  4. The word “parable” comes from the Greek parabole, which means “placing beside,” as in a comparison. A parable is a brief illustrative story that teaches a lesson or makes a specific point, usually drawing from situations or images that are common to the listener.

  13. What motivated Jesus to help the people who were looking for Him? What was His response?

  16. What was the disciples' response to the crowds after it was getting late? 
  17. What was Jesus' response to the needs of the crowd?
  18. How did the disciples respond to Jesus' command?

  20. Can Jesus multiply the gifts that we give to others?

  28. Do you think Jesus knew what was going to happen that night? How long was He praying?
  29. Why do you think Jesus waited until near dawn before He went out to help them?
  30. How long would they have been out at sea, most of the time battling a storm?
  31. What might have gone through their minds as the disciples battled the storm? What would you think if you saw something coming to you if you were in a boat on the lake?
  32. How did Jesus respond to their cries of fear?
  33. Have you ever cried out in fear?
  34. Do you think that Jesus can calm our fears? Do you have any fears? What gets rid of fear?
  35. Who spoke up in response to Jesus and what did he ask? Why do you think He asked that question? 
  36. How did Jesus respond to Peter?
  37. What lesson did Peter learn about stepping out in faith? What can we learn from this about stepping out in faith?
  38. What was the response of the disciples in the boat to the miracle they saw?
  39. Do you worship God when you see a miracle or are you just in awe? What kind of miracles do we fail to worship God for?
  40. Even though the disciples obeyed Jesus and got into the boat, they faced a storm. Can we face storms too in life even if we are obedient to the Lord? How did God honor the disciple's obedience? Does God honor our obedience too? 
  41. What happened when word got out where Jesus was?
  42. What happened to those who came and who were sick?
  43. Could that happen today? What is Jesus' real desire to do in our life?
  44. How about on a personal level - What is our motive for coming to God or asking for help from God? Is it to get what we want for ourselves or are we willing to have God do in our lives what He wants to do? 
  45. If you had to summarize what Matthew teaches in this chapter what would the main points be?
