BAPTIZE YOU WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

Luke 3:16
John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
BAPTIZE YOU WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
Christ’s baptizing His followers with or in the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:11) would be a new sign by which to identify God’s people.
  1. This was promised through prophecy in Joel 2:28 and reaffirmed by Jesus Himself after His resurrection (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-8). This prediction began to be fulfilled on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:4).
  2. Christ’s ministry of baptizing (immersing, cleansing and empowering) His followers in the Holy Spirit is a continuing ministry throughout this present age. This is made clear by the Greek text of John 1:33 (“he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit”); this phrase uses the present participle (ho baptizon), meaning “he who will continue to baptize.” This means that the references in Luke and John are not only to the first outpouring of the Holy Spirit (when God generously sent His Spirit to fill and empower His followers) during Pentecost, but also to the important ongoing role of Jesus as the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit. “The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off” (Acts 2:39).
  3. The purpose of this baptism is to provide great spiritual power, inspiration, and enthusiasm to live for Christ and spread His message (Luke 3:16; 24;49; Acts 1:8).

WILL BAPTIZE YOU WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

Matthew 3:11
“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
WILL BAPTIZE YOU WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
John teaches that the work of the Messiah will involve baptizing His followers with the Holy Spirit and fire. This baptism would provide great spiritual power and enthusiasm to live for Christ and spread His message (Luke 3:16). Many scholars view the reference to “fire” as referring to the spiritually purifying presence of God and the refining work of God’s Spirit. The context of this passage, however, could mean that “fire” refers to judgment (Verse 12, Luke 3:17); “unquenchable fire” is the same as the “lake of fire” in Revelation 20:10, 14-15. Like the Old Testament prophets, John did not see or describe the time gap between the first and second comings of Christ. Jesus came first as the Messiah, to save people spiritually and baptize them in the Holy Spirit (Verse 11; Acts 1:5). He will come again as the judge who separates the wheat from the chaff, the godly from the ungodly (Verse 12; Revelation 20:15).

WILL BAPTIZE WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

Picture
John 1:33
I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
WILL BAPTIZE WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
The word “with” is a translation of the Greek proposition en and can mean “by,” “with” or “in.” An alternate translation would be “he who will baptize in the Holy Spirit,” just as “baptize with water” may be understood as “baptize in water” (the word “baptize” literally means to “immerse,” or put under water).
All the Gospels (the accounts of Jesus’ life and ministry by Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) state that Jesus is “he who will baptize with [in] the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 3:11; Mark 1:8; Luke 3:16; John 1:33). This baptism – a sign of cleansing and empowering – was to be the dynamic characteristic and distinction of Jesus’ followers. The Holy Spirit would be poured out on them (and into them) so that they might continue to carry His message of spiritual salvation throughout the world (Acts 1:8). The task of baptizing in the Spirit is the ongoing purpose of Jesus to this day (Matthew 3:11; Acts 2:39).

WITH [IN] THE HOLY SPIRIT

AUGUST 28 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION

Acts 1:5
For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with
the Holy Spirt.
WITH [IN] THE HOLY SPIRIT
The preposition “with” is the translation of the Greek word en and is often translated as “in.” This means that the phrase also could be interpreted, “you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit.” In the same way, “baptized with water” may be translated “baptized in water.” The word “baptized” suggests being immersed, so baptism in the Spirit is being immersed in and saturated with the Holy Spirit’s power. Jesus Himself is the one who baptizes His followers in the Holy Spirit (John 1:33).

THE SPIRIT WHO CALLS OUT, "ABBA, FATHER."

8/27/2021

AUGUST 27 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION
Picture
Galatians 4:6
Because you are sons,
God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts,
the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”
THE SPIRIT WHO CALLS OUT, “ABBA, FATHER.”
Because Christians are now God’s children, they have a new “guardian” (Verse 2, not the law or human initiative), which is the Spirit of God (Romans 8:9). One of the Holy Spirit’s tasks is to crate in God’s children a feeling of filial love (relating to parents or family) that causes them to know God as their Father.
  1. The term “Abba” is Aramaic, meaning “Father.” It was the word Jesus used when referring to his heavenly Father. The combining of the Aramaic term “Abba” with the Greek term for father (pater) expresses the depth of intimacy, warmth, and confidence by which the Holy Spirit helps us relate to and cry out to God (Mark 14:36; Romans 8:15, 26-27). Two sure signs of the Spirit’s work within us are the natural and willing cry to God as “Father” and the natural and willing obedience to Jesus as “Lord” (1 Corinthians 12:3).
  2. Though all true believers have the Holy Spirit living within them (Romans 8:9-11; 1 Corinthians 6:15-20; 2 Corinthians 3:3; Ephesians 1:13; Hebrews 6:4; 1 John 3:24; 4:13), in this passage Paul may also have in mind the baptism in the Holy Spirit and His continual filling (Acts 1:5; 2:4; Ephesians 5:18).  After all, God makes our relationship to Him as children the reason for sending the Spirit. Because we are already “sons” through faith in Christ, God sends the Spirit into our hearts. The receiving of “the full rights of sons” (Verse 5) would refer to spiritual salvation and a right relationship with God, which this passage describes as preceding the sending of “the Spirit of His Son” (Galatians 3:5).

CHILDREN OF GOD

8/26/2021

AUGUST 26 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION
Picture
1 John 3:1
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us,
that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!
The reason the world does not know us
is that it did not know him.
CHILDREN OF GOD
The truth that God is our Father, and we are His children is one of the greatest revelations in the New Testament.
  1. Being a child of God – chosen and adopted through Christ as His very own – is among the highest honors and privileges of our salvation (John 1:12; Galatians 4:7).
  2. Being a child of God is the basis for our faith and trust in God (Matthew 6:25-34) and our hope of glory for the future. As God’s children, we are heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, which means that we have part in His eternal inheritance (Romans 8:16-17; Galatians 4:7).
  3. God wants us to become increasingly aware that we are His children. This awareness comes through the presence of the Holy Spirit – the “Spirit of sonship” (Romans 8:15) – within us. The Spirit allows us to call on God in a seep, personal and intimate way – “Abba, Father” (Galatians 4:6) – and He gives us the desire to be “led by the Spirit” (Romans 8:14).
  4. Being a child of God means that, at times, we will be disciplined by the Gather (Hebrews 12:6-7, 11) so that we can grow in spiritual maturity (Verse 9; 4:17-19). God’s highest goat in making us His children is to save us forever (John 3:16) and to make us more like Jesus (Romans 8:29).

DENY HIMSELF AND TAKE UP HIS CROSS

8/25/2021

AUGUST 25 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION
Picture
Mark 8:34
Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
DENY HIMSELF AND TAKE UP HIS CROSS
To deny self means to put aside our own selfish desires in order to follow Christ and serve His purposes, whatever the cost. The cross of Christ is a symbol of suffering (1 Peter 2:21; 4:13), death (Acts 10:39), shame (Hebrews 12:2), ridicule (Matthew 27:39), rejection (1 Peter 2:4) and self-denial (Matthew 16:24). A follower of Christ who takes up his or her cross is making a deliberate choice to deny his or her own selfish interest and way of life (Luke 14:26-27) and to boldly identify with Christ. That person’s own identity gets so connected with that of Jesus that the person’s own reputation cannot be separated from his or her relationship with Christ. This kind of identification with Christ Jesus requires a commitment in four areas of struggle and suffering for the sake of Christ:
  1. We struggle in a lifelong battle against sin (Romans 6; 1 Peter 4:1-2) and must willingly endure suffering by crucifying (putting to death, not feeding, becoming unresponsive to) our own sinful desires (Romans 6; 8:13; Galatians 2:20; 6:14; Titus 2:12; 1 Peter 2:11, 21-24).
  2. We struggle in a war against Satan and the demonic powers of evil and must be willing to suffer rejection and hardship in order to promote Christ’s purpose on earth (2 Corinthians 10:4-5; 6:7; Ephesians 6:12). In the process, we will experience spiritual opposition and hostility (2 Corinthians 6:3-7; 11:23-29; 1 Peter 5:8-10), and we will face the resistance and persecution as we stand against false teachers who corrupt the true message of Christ (Matthew 23:1-36; Galatians 1:9; Philippians 1:15-17).
  3. We suffer hatred and ridicule from the world (John 15:18-25; Hebrews 11:25-26) because of our devotion to Christ and His standards of truth and right (1 Corinthians 1:21-27). People will strongly oppose us because our example and testimony – which must be conveyed with love and humility – expose the evil of their beliefs, behaviors, and lifestyles (John 7:7)

    Book of Micah Bible Study

    $14.00

Here at Tailspin Farms Life in Grace Bible Study series we are starting the book of MICAH!

The book of MICAH is from the Old Testament.

The book of Micah contains many warnings of doom and prophecies of hope.

In this study on Micah I hope to provide an overview and lessons we can learn from the book of Micah.

The prophet Micah was from the small town of Moresheth Gath in southern Judah, a productive agricultural area about 25 miles southwest of Jerusalem.

Like Amos, he came from the rural countryside, probably from a family of humble status. While the prophet Isaiah was in Jerusalem addressing the king and international affairs,

Micah was a country prophet who was deeply sensitive to the social issues that affected the small towns and villages throughout Judah.

Zephaniah's reference to Jerusalem as "this place" (Zephaniah 1:4), as well as his detailed description of Jerusalem's landscape and its sins, supports the belief by scholars that he lived in this city.

Haggai is the first of three prophetic books in the Old Testament (Haggai, Zachariah and Malachi) written after many of God’s people had returned from exile throughout what was, at that time, the Persian Empire (based on narratives in Ezra and Nehemiah the initial return of exiles to Jerusalem)...

A book containing a message of trust, commitment, and work.

    It involves a practice of:

    • meditation
    • prayer
    • and offerings

that should be done on a day to day basis to fix God in the very center of our life in order to maintain that place of peace and rest.

A place that many of us venture out into the world to find, not realizing the work of the temple begins with us, inside.
