1 Corinthians 3:16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?

YOU YOURSELVES ARE GOD’S TEMPLE

The emphasis here is on the entire church congregation, or local community of Christians. The Bible also refers to individual Christians (their bodies) as temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19); but here the reference is to the entire church body as the dwelling place of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:9; 2 Corinthians 6:16; Ephesians 2:21). As God’s temple in the middle of a corrupt society, God’s people in Corinth were not to participate in the evil and ungodly practices so often embraced in that society. They were to reject all forms of ungodly and immoral beliefs and behaviors. God’s temple must be holy (1 Corinthians 3:17) – morally pure, spiritually whole, separated from evil and dedicated completely to God – because God is holy (1 Peter 1:14-15; 1 Peter 1:16).

THAT WE MAY UNDERSTAND

1 Corinthians 2:12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.

THAT WE MAY UNDERSTAND

God’s Spirit knows all things and fully understands the nature and depth of God’s plans. In the proper time and way, He will reveal and shine His light upon (1 Corinthians 2:10-16) the things that God had prepared for those who truly love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9). As we read and study the Bible, the Holy Spirit can enlighten our understanding of the truth. The Spirit also gives Christ’s faithful followers a strong assurance of the divine origin of the Bible (John 16:13; Ephesians 1:17).

WORDS TAUGHT BY THE SPIRIT

3/18/2023

March 18-Start Your Day Right Devotion

Picture
1 Corinthians 2:13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.

WORDS TAUGHT BY THE SPIRIT

Though Paul is writing about the God-initiated, Spirit-directed nature of his preaching 1 Corinthians 2:9-13 suggest the steps by which the Holy Spirit also inspired the writing of Scripture (God’s written Word).
  • Step 1: God desired to communicate His wisdom to humankind (1 Corinthians 2:7-9). This wisdom concerned His plans and purpose to restore us to a personal relationship with Himself through the life, death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:30; 2:2, 5).
  • Step 2: It is only through the Holy Spirit that God’s truth and wisdom are revealed to humanity (1 Corinthians 2:10). The Spirit knows God’s thoughts fully (2 Corinthians 2:11), as He too is God.
  • Step 3: God’s revelation was given to chosen believers through the presence of the Spirit within them (1 Corinthians 2:12; Romans 8:11, 15).
  • Step 4: The writers of Scripture recorded the words taught by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:13). The Spirit not only directed the writers’ thoughts, but also the very choice of the words they used. (Exodus 24:4; Isaiah 51:16; Jeremiah 1:9; 36:28,32; Ezekiel 2:7; Matthew 4:4) so that they communicated exactly what God wanted. At the same time, the Spirit’s guidance in expressing God’s truth was not mechanical or impersonal; rather, the Spirit used each writer’s vocabulary and individual style.
  • Step 5: Believers can understand God-inspired Scripture as they examine its content through the help and insight of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:14-16).
The Spirit of God inspired both the thoughts and language of Scripture. Not a single writer used a false word or phrase. The Holy Spirit protected God’s Word from all error and untruth.

CHRIST JESUS – HAS BECOME FOR US WISDOM

1 Corinthians 1:30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God – that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

CHRIST JESUS – HAS BECOME FOR US WISDOM

Only because of what Jesus has accomplished for us and only through a personal relationship with Him can we truly understand and receive godly wisdom. Because of Christ, we can be rescued from sin and restored to a right relationship with God (Romans 3:24; Ephesians 4:30; Romans 4). In that relationship we can grow to become more like Christ in our character and purpose (2 Thessalonians 2:13-15). Because Christ is the source of all these blessings, it is only as we remain in a faithful and right relationship with Him that we can enjoy these blessings (John 15:1; John 15:2; John 15:4; John 15:6).

YOUR BODY IS A TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

YOUR BODY IS A TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

As a Christian, your body is a personal dwelling place of the Holy Spirit (see Romans 8:11, where the Spirit is God’s mark on you, signifying that you belong to Him). Because the Spirit lives in you and you belong to God, your body must never be defiled by any impurity or evil, whether by immoral thoughts, desires, actions or images. This principle also includes things that are not sexual in nature, such as caring properly and responsibly for our physical bodies in every respect. We must live and care for ourselves in such a way as to honor and please God With our bodies (1 Corinthians 7:20). After all, we do not belong to ourselves; Christ paid a ransom for us with His own life (Matthew 20:28; Mark 10:45; 1 Timothy 2:6; Hebrews 9:15) to free us from sin and bring us into a personal relationship with God.

DESIRE SPIRITUAL GIFTS

1 Corinthians 14:1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.

DESIRE SPIRITUAL GIFTS

Believers who genuinely love others in the body of Christ (the church) must desire spiritual gifts in order to be able to build others up and help those in need (1 Corinthians 12:17). They should not wait passively for God to give the gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:7-10).  Instead, they must passionately desire and pray for those gifts, especially those that serve to encourage, comfort and strengthen others (1 Corinthians 14:3, 13, 19, 26).

THE OTHERS SHOULD WEIGH CAREFULLY

2/3/2023

February 3-Start Your Day Right Devotion

Picture
1 Corinthians 14:29 Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.

THE OTHERS SHOULD WEIGH CAREFULLY

All prophecy (or tongues with interpretation) must be evaluated according to what is said. That is to say, the people should not automatically accept a message without using discernment (godly wisdom and Spirit-guided understanding) and considering whether it is consistent with God’s Word and relevant to their situation. This does not mean that the message will always be pleasant, convenient or easy to apply; but those who are in right relationship with God should be able to discern whether the message is truly from the Lord. This shows that New Testament prophecy was not infallible (perfectly reliable and free from error) and at times might need to be corrected. It certainly was never meant to be accepted on the same level with Scripture (God’s written Word as recorded in the Bible).
  1. At times, prophecy and speaking in tongues might not be an authentic, or true, message from God (1 John 4:1). People who are caught up in their emotions or sometimes misguided in their sense of direction from the Spirit may gibe a well-meaning message that is actually from their own mind and motivation. At times, even evil spirits, through the presence of false teachers or prophets, can work in a congregation. Prophesying, speaking in tongues or possessing any supernatural gift is no guarantee that one is a true prophet or even a true Christian because Satan can counterfeit and imitate spiritual gifts (Matthew 24:24; 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12; Revelation 13:13-14). Even if one possesses legitimate spiritual gifts from God, there is not guarantee that the person will always exercise their gifts properly.
  2. If the church has not established proper and orderly ways (1 Corinthians 14:40) to apply and evaluate prophecies, it has failed to follow Biblical guidelines. Notice also that prophecy was not considered an uncontrollable urge of the Spirit; the speaker could control the impulse because only one prophet could speak at a time (1 Corinthians 14:30-32).
  3. What should be the church’s attitude toward prophetic messages? (a.) All prophecy must be tested according to the standard of Biblical truth (Deuteronomy 13:1-3). If the prophecy has to do with something in the future, believers should look for its fulfillment before passing final judgment (Deuteronomy 18:22). This includes preparing themselves for the possibility that the prophecy may or may not be fulfilled.                                                                                                                     (b) If the word of prophecy is an exhortation (a word of challenge or encouragement), the congregation needs to ask, “What must we do to obey the Spirit’s will and purpose?”.
  4. In order to properly evaluate and guide the use of spiritual gifts and expressions, church leaders must pray for godly discernment (divine wisdom and Spirit-guided understanding). In addition, the people in the church should not take offense at times when leaders offer correction or guidance in a worship service or to individuals in private. Such interaction is to be expected at times. Believers must never be so proud as to assume that they know exactly how to use the gifts of the Spirit at all times without guidance and correction. This does not mean that God is displeased or that leaders are upset with the people. Keep in mind that many on the New Testament letters – such as this one to the Corinthians – contained large portions on guidance and correction about such issues. And these instructions came from leaders who loved the people deeply and respected the ministry God was doing among them.

    Book of Micah Bible Study

    $14.00

Here at Tailspin Farms Life in Grace Bible Study series we are starting the book of MICAH!

The book of MICAH is from the Old Testament.

The book of Micah contains many warnings of doom and prophecies of hope.

In this study on Micah I hope to provide an overview and lessons we can learn from the book of Micah.

The prophet Micah was from the small town of Moresheth Gath in southern Judah, a productive agricultural area about 25 miles southwest of Jerusalem.

Like Amos, he came from the rural countryside, probably from a family of humble status. While the prophet Isaiah was in Jerusalem addressing the king and international affairs,

Micah was a country prophet who was deeply sensitive to the social issues that affected the small towns and villages throughout Judah.

Habakkuk is a minor prophet, and this book is unique from the other prophets in that instead of the prophet speaking God's Word to the people, it records Habakkuk's personal dialogue with God.

When I read this book, about a week ago, I felt that I needed to share HABAKKUK with you.

Let's be honest with each other we have all questioned God and perhaps His existence in our life.

There is so much evil and injustice that exists in the world, Does God Care?

In this study on Zephaniah I hope to provide an overview and lessons we can learn from the book of Zephaniah.

Zephaniah, whose name means "the LORD hides," was a great-great-grandson of King Hezekiah of Judah and prophesied during the reign of Josiah (639-609B.C.), Judah's last godly ruler (Zephaniah 1:1). Zephaniah's reference to Jerusalem as "this place" (Zephaniah 1:4), as well as his detailed description of Jerusalem's landscape and its sins, supports the belief by scholars that he lived in this city.

THEME / PURPOSE: Rebuilding the Temple: Obedience to God Brings the Strength of His Spirit.

Haggai is the first of three prophetic books in the Old Testament (Haggai, Zachariah and Malachi) written after many of God’s people had returned from exile throughout what was, at that time, the Persian Empire (based on narratives in Ezra and Nehemiah the initial return of exiles to Jerusalem)...

A book containing a message of trust, commitment, and work.

    It involves a practice of:

    • meditation
    • prayer
    • and offerings

that should be done on a day to day basis to fix God in the very center of our life in order to maintain that place of peace and rest.

A place that many of us venture out into the world to find, not realizing the work of the temple begins with us, inside.

The word "Gospel" means "good news", and the good news is about Jesus Christ dying on the cross and then 3 days later conquering death and rising from the dead, offering salvation to all mankind, this is the Gospel.

I hope you that you'll participate in this 15-week series.
