TERRIBLE TIMES IN THE LAST DAYS

2 Timothy 3:1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.

TERRIBLE TIMES IN THE LAST DAYS

The “last days” here is not simply referring to a brief period of time before Christ’s return, since Paul tells Timothy to have nothing to do with the defiant and unfaithful people of this time. In a very broad and general sense, the “last days” can include the entire era between Christ’s first coming, by birth (Hebrews 9:26; 1 Peter 1:20), and His literal second coming at the end of the tribulation period (Acts 2:17). In this passage, Paul may be referring more specifically to the period beginning with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the united believers in Jerusalem, which was the start of the church (following Christ’s resurrection and ascension back to heaven [or some say Pentecost; Acts 2] and concluding with Christ’s return to earth). Through Paul’s prophecy here, the Holy Spirit (1 Timothy 4:1) says that ungodly and immoral behavior in society will accelerate as the end approaches (2 Peter 3:3; 1 John 2:18).
  1. The last days will be marked by a widespread collapse of the moral structure of the family and of society in general as people are arrogant “lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God” (2 Timothy 3:4). Even in churches, unfaithfulness to God and disloyalty to His truth will increase (Matthew 24:3-14; 1 Timothy 4:1). These times will be especially difficult and disheartening for God’s true servants.
  2. Paul warns that within organized Christianity many will have “a form of godliness” (an insincere, hypocritical religion) and will appear to do the right things outwardly; but they will lack the authentic power that comes from a right relationship with God. Such people deny the true power of Christ’s message that produces genuine life transformation and godly character. Paul adds: “have nothing to do with them” (2 Timothy 3:5). The full benefits of spiritual salvation and the mighty end-time outpouring, and activity of the Holy Spirit will occur through churches that are truly passionate for Jesus, actively serving His purpose and anticipating His coming. Followers of Christ who remain true to God and His Word will experience greater favor and empowerment from God than they have ever know (Acts 4:33; Romans 5:20; Jude 1:3).

FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT

2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT

In reviewing his life for God, Paul knows that death is approaching (1 Timothy 4:6). He describes his Christian life in the following terms:
  1. He considers the Christian life as a “good fight,” the only fight worth fighting. He fought against Satan (Ephesians 6:12), all forms of God-defying behavior (2 Timothy 3:1-5; Romans 1:21-32; Galatians 5:19-21), religious hypocrisy (Acts 14:19; 20:19; Galatians 5:1-6), immoral behavior and abuse of spiritual freedom in the church (2 Timothy 3:5; 4:3; Romans 6; 1 Corinthians 5:1; 6:9-10 ; 2 Corinthians 12:20-21), false teachers (2 Timothy 4:3-5; Acts 20:28-31; Romans 16:17-18), distortion of Christ’s message (Galatians 1:6-12), worldliness (Romans 12:2) and sin of  every kind (Romans 6; 8:13; 1 Corinthians 9:24-27).
  2. He sees himself coming to the end of a race which has taken him on a difficult course of trials and temptations; yet he has remained faithful to his Lord and Savior throughout his life (2 Timothy 2:12; Hebrews 10:23; 11; 12:1-2).
  3. Through it all, he has held firmly to his faith in times of severe testing, discouragement and trouble, even while abandoned by friends and opposed by false teachers. He never compromised the original truth of the gospel – the message of forgiveness, a personal relationship with God and eternal life through faith in Christ (2 Timothy 1:13-14; 2:2; 3:14-16; 1 Timothy 6:12).
As followers of Christ, we must serve wholeheartedly and give everything for Jesus, just as He did for us. People all over the world are looking for a purpose in life – something worth living and dying for. We have that cause and must not be ashamed to let others see our unwavering devotion to Jesus. We must always keep in mind that God will never misuse or waste anything we entrust to Him, though He will certainly guide and use our lives entirely for His purposes if we surrender to Him (2 Timothy 4:6; Philippians 2:17). Yet, if our lives are to amount to anything extraordinary for God, we must let Him spend our lives as He chooses. This will mean that we often experience rejection by others who want nothing to do with the truth of God (2 Timothy 3:12). But if we stay strong in faith to the finish, God will reward our efforts.

A SPIRIT OF POWER, OF LOVE AND OF SELF-DISCIPLINE

October 31 - Start Your Day Right Devotion

2 Timothy 1:7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

A SPIRIT OF POWER, OF LOVE AND OF SELF-DISCIPLINE

It seems that a lack of confidence or being too timid was sometimes a problem for Timothy (1 Corinthians 16:10-11; 1 Timothy 4:12). But he did not have to rely on his own strength and ability to fulfill the ministry God had given him. Whatever God calls us to do, we have no reason to fear (Romans 8:15) because God never calls us to a task for which He will not equip and enable us by the power of His Spirit. Our primary motivation for serving God should be love – God’s love for us (Romans 5:8; Galatians 2:20; Ephesians 5:2; 1 John 4:10) and our love for Him and others (Mark 12:30-31; 1 John 3:17; 4:19). But it also takes great discipline to step out in faith and us the gifts He has given us to accomplish His purposes.

KEEP AS THE PATTERN OF SOUND TEACHING

October 15-Start Your Day Right Devotion

Picture
2 Timothy 1:13 What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.

KEEP AS THE PATTERN OF SOUND TEACHING

The “sound teaching” is the original and foundational revelation and teaching of Christ and the apostles (those Jesus personally commissioned to deliver His original message and help establish His church). This was the basis of Paul’s instruction to Timothy; wo must now be responsible to hold on to these truths in faith and love for Jesus Christ. He must never abandon or compromise the truth, even if it means suffering rejection and disgrace. Today it is popular in some churches to emphasize that spiritual experiences or worship times are more important than practical preaching or teaching of the Word. But this opinion is firmly contradicted in Paul’s pastoral letters (2 Timothy 4:3; 1 Timothy 1:10; 6:3; Titus 1:9, 13; 2:1-2, 8).

BE PREPARED IN SEASON AND OUT OF SEASON

2 Timothy 4:1-2 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage – with great patience and careful instruction.

Be Prepared In Season And Out Of Season

A minister must be prepared in any situation to give a needed and appropriate word, whether for challenge, inspiration, correction, or encouragement. All followers of Christ should “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15).

2 Timothy 2:12 If we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us
IF WE ENDURE
Those who “endure” (Greek hupomeno) and remain firm and strong in their faith to the end of their earthly lives will experience the reward of eternal life with Christ (2 Timothy 2:11; Matthew 10:22; 24:13). These are the faithful who will reign with Him forever (2 Timothy 4:18; Revelation 20:4). But on the day of judgment Christ will disown those who do not endure and who disown or deny Him either in words or behavior (Matthew 10:33; 25:1-12).

CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

2 Timothy 4:8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.
CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
Because Paul remained faithful to his Lord and the message entrusted to him, the Holy Spirit assured him that God’s loving approval and the “crown of righteousness” was awaiting him in heaven. God has reserved in heaven rewards for all who remain loyal to Jesus Christ and His message of truth (Matthew 19:27-29; 2 Corinthians 5:10).

    Book of Micah Bible Study

    $14.00

Here at Tailspin Farms Life in Grace Bible Study series we are starting the book of MICAH!

The book of MICAH is from the Old Testament.

The book of Micah contains many warnings of doom and prophecies of hope.

In this study on Micah I hope to provide an overview and lessons we can learn from the book of Micah.

The prophet Micah was from the small town of Moresheth Gath in southern Judah, a productive agricultural area about 25 miles southwest of Jerusalem.

Like Amos, he came from the rural countryside, probably from a family of humble status. While the prophet Isaiah was in Jerusalem addressing the king and international affairs,

Micah was a country prophet who was deeply sensitive to the social issues that affected the small towns and villages throughout Judah.

Here at Tailspin Farms Life in Grace Bible Study series we are starting the book of HABAKKUK!

Habakkuk is a minor prophet, and this book is unique from the other prophets in that instead of the prophet speaking God's Word to the people, it records Habakkuk's personal dialogue with God.

When I read this book, about a week ago, I felt that I needed to share HABAKKUK with you.

Let's be honest with each other we have all questioned God and perhaps His existence in our life.

There is so much evil and injustice that exists in the world, Does God Care?

The book of ZEPHANIAH is from the Old Testament. It only has 3 chapters.

The book of Zephaniah contains Destruction and Salvation / The Day of the LORD

In this study on Zephaniah I hope to provide an overview and lessons we can learn from the book of Zephaniah.

Zephaniah, whose name means "the LORD hides," was a great-great-grandson of King Hezekiah of Judah and prophesied during the reign of Josiah (639-609B.C.), Judah's last godly ruler (Zephaniah 1:1). Zephaniah's reference to Jerusalem as "this place" (Zephaniah 1:4), as well as his detailed description of Jerusalem's landscape and its sins, supports the belief by scholars that he lived in this city.

THEME / PURPOSE: Rebuilding the Temple: Obedience to God Brings the Strength of His Spirit.

Haggai is the first of three prophetic books in the Old Testament (Haggai, Zachariah and Malachi) written after many of God’s people had returned from exile throughout what was, at that time, the Persian Empire (based on narratives in Ezra and Nehemiah the initial return of exiles to Jerusalem)...

A book containing a message of trust, commitment, and work.

    It involves a practice of:

    • meditation
    • prayer
    • and offerings

that should be done on a day to day basis to fix God in the very center of our life in order to maintain that place of peace and rest.

A place that many of us venture out into the world to find, not realizing the work of the temple begins with us, inside.

I invite you to go through this bible study with us.

The word "Gospel" means "good news", and the good news is about Jesus Christ dying on the cross and then 3 days later conquering death and rising from the dead, offering salvation to all mankind, this is the Gospel.

I hope you that you'll participate in this 15-week series.
