THE SPIRIT … THE SINFUL NATURE

May 3 - Start Your Day Right Devotion

Picture
Galatians 5:17-18 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.

The Spirit ... The Sinful Nature

The spiritual conflict within believers involves the whole person – mind, body, and spirit. The struggle is whether they will give in to their own sinful desires and yield to sin’s control, or whether they will surrender to the spirit’s demands and continue under Christ’s authority and control (Galatians 5:16; Romans 8:4-14). The battlefield is within each Christian, and the conflict will continue throughout their earthly lives if they are to reign with Christ in the future (Romans 7:7-25; 2 Timothy 2:12; Revelation 12:11; Ephesians 6:11). However, by relying on the power of the Holy Spirit and by following His guidance, a Christian will overcome his or her own ungodly desires and win the battle over the sinful nature (Galatians 5:16).

RESCUE US FROM THE PRESENT EVIL AGE

JANUARY 30 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION
Picture
Galatians 1:3-5 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to who be glory for ever and ever, Amen.
RESCUE US FROM THE PRESENT EVIL AGE
This verse is probably an early confession of faith that was well known throughout the New Testament churches. It connects Christ’s death with the forgiveness of sins – our own acts of rebellion and offenses against God – and with spiritual rescue from “the present evil age.” At the center of Christ’s sacrifice – to restore people to a right relationship with God – is the goal to set people free from the evil that dominates the societies of this world. The first gospel message (the “good news” of forgiveness and new life now available because of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ) preached after the Holy Spirit came to fill and empower Christ’s followers of the day of Pentecost included the words: “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation” (Acts 2:40). Christians must live to honor God and to serve His purposes. This includes refusing to be guided by the popular values, wisdom, opinions, corrupt desires, and selfish pleasures of those in the world who do not follow Christ (Romans 12:2; Titus 2:14).

Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek,

male nor female,
for you are all one
in Christ Jesus.
MALE NOR FEMALE
Paul removes all barriers to one’s spiritual relationship with Jesus Christ, including ethnic, racial, national, socio-economic and gender. All who are “in Christ” are equal heirs of “the gracious gift of life” (1 Peter 3:7), the promised Spirit (Verse 14; 4:6) and spiritual renewal in God’s image (Colossians 3: 10-11). Although men and women are equal heirs in Christ, their God-assigned roles in marriage and their unique distinctions in other aspects of life and society remain unchanged (1 Peter 3:1-4; Ephesians 5:22-23; 1 Timothy 2:13, 15).

THE SPIRIT WHO CALLS OUT, "ABBA, FATHER."

AUGUST 27 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION
Picture
Galatians 4:6
Because you are sons,
God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts,
the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”
THE SPIRIT WHO CALLS OUT, “ABBA, FATHER.”
Because Christians are now God’s children, they have a new “guardian” (Verse 2, not the law or human initiative), which is the Spirit of God (Romans 8:9). One of the Holy Spirit’s tasks is to crate in God’s children a feeling of filial love (relating to parents or family) that causes them to know God as their Father.
  1. The term “Abba” is Aramaic, meaning “Father.” It was the word Jesus used when referring to his heavenly Father. The combining of the Aramaic term “Abba” with the Greek term for father (pater) expresses the depth of intimacy, warmth, and confidence by which the Holy Spirit helps us relate to and cry out to God (Mark 14:36; Romans 8:15, 26-27). Two sure signs of the Spirit’s work within us are the natural and willing cry to God as “Father” and the natural and willing obedience to Jesus as “Lord” (1 Corinthians 12:3).
  2. Though all true believers have the Holy Spirit living within them (Romans 8:9-11; 1 Corinthians 6:15-20; 2 Corinthians 3:3; Ephesians 1:13; Hebrews 6:4; 1 John 3:24; 4:13), in this passage Paul may also have in mind the baptism in the Holy Spirit and His continual filling (Acts 1:5; 2:4; Ephesians 5:18).  After all, God makes our relationship to Him as children the reason for sending the Spirit. Because we are already “sons” through faith in Christ, God sends the Spirit into our hearts. The receiving of “the full rights of sons” (Verse 5) would refer to spiritual salvation and a right relationship with God, which this passage describes as preceding the sending of “the Spirit of His Son” (Galatians 3:5).

CARRY EACH OTHER’S BURDENS

AUGUST 15 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION
Picture
Galatians 6:2
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.
CARRY EACH OTHER’S BURDENS
To carry each other’s burdens (concerns, problems, difficult responsibilities) includes helping people in times of sickness, sorrow, and financial stress. It involves praying earnestly for people as well as helping to meet their needs in tangible, practical ways. Paul may have in mind the support of missionaries and teachers (Verse 6; Romans 15:1; 1 Corinthians 9:14). To carry another’s burden is a godly quality (Psalms 55:22; 1 Peter 5:7).

RESTORE HIM GENTLY

AUGUST 14 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION
Picture
Galatians 6:1
Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.
RESTORE HIM GENTLY
The word “restore” (Greek katartizo) is used in the New Testament for mending fishing nets (Matthew 4:21), but in reference to people it means developing and perfecting human character (2 Corinthians 13:11). With this in mind, Christians must help wayward believers to mend and heal spiritually by guiding them in their desire and efforts to turn from their own defiant ways, to surrender to Christ’s control and to renew their full devotion to Jesus Christ. This may involve disciplinary action (Matthew 13:30), which should be done humbly and firmly, but “gently.”
Paul here is not thinking of the serious sins and open and unashamed moral violations that bring public disgrace to Christ and the congregation (1 Corinthians 5:5). Such sins my require temporary exclusion from the church before restoration is granted (1Corinthians 5:11).

DO NOT USE YOUR FREEDOM TO INDULGE

MAY 5 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION
Picture
Galatians 5:13
You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.
DO NOT USE YOUR FREEDOM TO INDULGE
While Christ sets His followers free from the system of religion that depends only on obedience to certain rules (with no response from the heart). Christians are still accountable to follow Christ’s commands and the moral standards and principles of God’s laws (Romans 8:4). This means that individual Christians must never use their freedom to satisfy sinful desires or practice questionable behaviors. In addition, they must not be selfishly proud about their freedom so that they find excuse to offend other sincere believers or mislead those who may be looking to them for a godly example (Romans 6:17; 13:10; 14:17; 1 Corinthians 8-9).

Matthew is the first of the four gospel writings, yet there is only one gospel about Jesus Christ and there are four different writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The word "Gospel" means "good news", and the good news is about Jesus Christ dying on the cross and then 3 days later conquering death and rising from the dead, offering salvation to all mankind, this is the Gospel.

I hope you that you'll participate in this 15-week series.

Matthew has 28 chapters. For the in-depth study the 154-page eBook will help with your study.

    Book of Micah Bible Study

    $14.00

Here at Tailspin Farms Life in Grace Bible Study series we are starting the book of MICAH!

The book of MICAH is from the Old Testament.

The book of Micah contains many warnings of doom and prophecies of hope.

In this study on Micah I hope to provide an overview and lessons we can learn from the book of Micah.

The prophet Micah was from the small town of Moresheth Gath in southern Judah, a productive agricultural area about 25 miles southwest of Jerusalem.

Like Amos, he came from the rural countryside, probably from a family of humble status. While the prophet Isaiah was in Jerusalem addressing the king and international affairs,

Micah was a country prophet who was deeply sensitive to the social issues that affected the small towns and villages throughout Judah.

I invite you to go through this Bible Study with me.

    Thank you,

    Margarita
