IF ANY OF YOU LACKS WISDOM

July 5 - Start Your Day Right Devotion

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault; and it will be given to him.

If Any Of You Lacks Wisdom

We are to ask God for wisdom in coping with our trials, not just in avoiding or escaping them (James 1:2-4, 12). Wisdom means the spiritual capability to see and evaluate life and behavior from God’s point of view (Proverbs 1:2). It involves making good choices and doing what is right according to God’s standards and purposes. We develop such wisdom by basing our lives on what God has revealed in His Word and by following the guidance of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:4-17). We can receive wisdom by coming to God and asking for it in faith (James 1:6-8; Proverbs 2:6; 1 Corinthians 1:30).

June 6 - Start Your Day Right Devotion

James 1:2-3 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.

Trials

The word “trials” (Greek peirasmoi) refers to persecutions or great pressures in our lives (sometimes from the world or Satan) that God can use to strengthen our faith and develop in us perseverance and godly character. Trials, therefore, become the means by which we may become “mature and complete, not lacking anything” (James 1:4). The believer must see each trial as an opportunity to respond to a transforming work of God, knowing the following:
  1. We are to face our trials with joy (Matthew 5:11-12; Romans 5:3; 1 Peter 1:6) because of the benefits and positive results they will produce if we hold fast to our faith and hope (James 1:12; Romans 5:3-5). James reminds the believers that their faith will grow stronger only as it is faced with difficulties and opposition (James 1:3-4, 12).
  2. Trials can be viewed as a “testing of your faith” (James 1:3). Difficulties allow God to test and prove the sincerity of our faith. God’s Word never teaches us that troubles in life are an automatic sign that God is disappointed with us. Instead, they can indicate that God recognizes our faith and has confidence in our commitment to Him (Job 1-2).
  3. The same Greek root translated as “temptations” in James 1:13. The main difference is that the emphasis in James 1:2-3 is on pressures from outside sources beyond our immediate control, while James 1:13-15 refer to inner moral struggles, such as the temptation to sin. The latter reference is speaking of problems that often stem from our own selfish and ungodly desires.

CONFESS … PRAY … BE HEALED

May 14 - Start Your Day Right Devotion

Picture
James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

Confess ... Pray ... Be Healed

This verse gives us an important aspect to healing we must be accountable to one another. This means that we must be willing to confess our spiritual failures to other trustworthy Christians so that we can pray more effectively for each other. Sin in the church hinders prayer and holds back God’s healing power from being demonstrated among His people.
PRAYER OF A RIGHTEOUS MAN IS POWERFUL
For those who are in a right relationship with God and who continually rely on Him to do what is right, their prayers will
  1. Bring them near to God (Hebrews 7:25).
  2. Open the way to a Spirit-filled life (Luke 11:13; Acts 1:14).
  3. Bring them power for ministry (Acts1:8; 4:31, 33) and Christian devotion (Ephesians 1:19).
  4. Build them up spiritually (Jude 1:20).
  5. Give them insight into Christ’s provision for them (Ephesians 1:16-19).
  6. Help them overcome Satan (Daniel 10:12-13; Ephesians 6:12-13, 18).
  7. Clarify God’s purposes for them (Psalms 32:6-8; Proverbs 3:5-6; Mark 1:35-39).
  8. Enable them to receive spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 14:1).
  9. Bring them into closer companionship with God (Matthew 6:9; John 7:37; 14:16).
  10. Bring them grace, mercy, and peace (Philippians 4:6-7; Hebrews 4:16).
  11. Bring others who are spiritually lost into a relationship with Christ (James 5:20).
  12. Bring them the wisdom, revelation, and knowledge of Christ (Ephesians 1:16-17).
  13. Bring them healing (James 5:15).
  14. Bring them rescue from trouble (Psalms 34:4-7; Philippians 1:19).
  15. Honor God with praise and thanksgiving (Psalms 100:4).
  16. Make Christ’s presence more real to them (Revelation 3:20).
  17. Ensure them of their final salvation and of Christ’s intercession (His pleading their case for them Hebrews 7:25).

WHEN YOU ASK, YOU DO NOT RECEIVE

FEBRUARY 25 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION
Picture
James 4:3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
WHEN YOU ASK, YOU DO NOT RECEIVE
God refuses to answer the prayers of those who are selfishly ambitious, love pleasure and desire honor, power, or riches (James 4:1). God’s Word tells us that He responds to the prayers of the righteous (Psalms 34:13-15; 66:18-19), of those who call on Him in truth (Psalms 145:18), of those who turn to him in genuine repentance and humility (Luke 18:14) and of those who ask according to His will (1 John 5:14). Sometimes we may not receive what God would like to give us because even though we ask for the right things, we ask for the wrong reasons. For example, we may be more concerned with our own convenience or influence than truly honoring God and benefiting His kingdom and purposes.

FRIENDSHIP WITH THE WORLD IS HATRED TOWARDS GOD

1/29/2022

JANUARY 29 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION
Picture
James 4:4 You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
FRIENDSHIP WITH THE WORLD IS HATRED TOWARDS GOD
“Friendship with the world” is spiritual adultery; it shows unfaithfulness to God and our pledge of devotion to Him (1 John 2:15-17; Isaiah 54:5; Jeremiah 3:20). This friendship involves embracing the world’s attitudes, values, practices, ungodly pleasures, and corrupt ways. God will not accept such a relationship (Matthew 6:24) because He is jealous for our undivided love and loyalty (Exodus 20:5; Deuteronomy 5:9). One example of the way we pursue friendship with the world is involvement in clubs, organizations, or sacred orders (lodge memberships) that require one to participate in ungodly activities, make ungodly commitments or take unbiblical religious oaths. These things can bind a person in strict devotion with those who do not follow God, which is forbidden in God’s Word (Matthew 5:33-37; 2 Corinthians 6:14). Christians cannot belong to such groups without compromising Christian faith and teaching (2 Peter 3:16) and loyalty to Christ (Matthew 6:24).

SELFISH AMBITION

DECEMBER 22 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION
Picture
James 3:14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.
SELFISH AMBITION
“Selfish ambition” refers to the ungodly habit of promoting one’s own interests above the purposes of God and the good of others. Selfish ambition in the church is equated with humanistic “wisdom” (Verse 15), which is
  1. “Earthly” - corrupting what is holy and spiritual
  2. “Unspiritual” – without the Holy Spirit
  3. “Of the devil” – inspired by demons (1 Timothy 4:1).
Living with selfish ambition is the opposite of thinking like Jesus (Philippians 2:3-5), and it leads to “disorder and every evil practice” (Verse 16).

SUBMIT TO GOD – RESIST THE DEVIL

DECEMBER 6 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION
Picture
James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
SUBMIT TO GOD – RESIST THE DEVIL
In their determination to gain victor in spiritual battles against evil, many Christians tend to focus on the last part of this verse about resisting the devil. By sheer determination, they may try to resist Satan’s schemes, accusations, and temptations; and for a brief time, they may experience what seems like success. But, in the end, they are often left with a sense of frustration, discouragement and defeat as they finally give in to Satan’s relentless pressure to yield to sin. In this situation, the problem usually stems from two things:
  1. Overlooking the first and most important aspect of this verse – “Submit yourselves, then, to God” – which must be the primary aspect of a spiritual victory strategy and
  2. Trying to resist Satan in our own efforts, which is actually a consequence of not first submitting to God.
The key to spiritual victory is complete submission to God rather than depending on your own resistance to the devil. This involves
  1. Letting go of any sin you may be hiding in your heart.
  2. Praying for God’s help, strength, and guidance.
  3. Giving up and habits or activities that may give sin a temptation an entrance into your life or that may be hindering your spiritual progress.
  4. Surrendering your own preconceived ideas and strategies on how to overcome sin or Satan and relying on God’s strategies, which He will show you as you continue to study His Word and pray.
  5. Doing exactly what God shows you and following the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
  6. Actively pursuing God’s purposes and taking positive action so as to occupy your attention with spiritual matters.
  7. Keeping a humble attitude toward God, others, and the situation in general.
  8. Turning your attention fully to God with the desire to do what honors Him.
  9. Continuing to rely on God and pursue His purposes after you have gained spiritual victory.
  10. Giving gratitude to God for helping you resist and overcome Satan. (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

    Book of Micah Bible Study

    $14.00

Here at Tailspin Farms Life in Grace Bible Study series we are starting the book of MICAH!

The book of MICAH is from the Old Testament.

The book of Micah contains many warnings of doom and prophecies of hope.

In this study on Micah I hope to provide an overview and lessons we can learn from the book of Micah.

The prophet Micah was from the small town of Moresheth Gath in southern Judah, a productive agricultural area about 25 miles southwest of Jerusalem.

Like Amos, he came from the rural countryside, probably from a family of humble status. While the prophet Isaiah was in Jerusalem addressing the king and international affairs,

Micah was a country prophet who was deeply sensitive to the social issues that affected the small towns and villages throughout Judah.

I invite you to go through this Bible Study with me.

In this study on Zephaniah I hope to provide an overview and lessons we can learn from the book of Zephaniah.

Zephaniah, whose name means "the LORD hides," was a great-great-grandson of King Hezekiah of Judah and prophesied during the reign of Josiah (639-609B.C.), Judah's last godly ruler (Zephaniah 1:1). Zephaniah's reference to Jerusalem as "this place" (Zephaniah 1:4), as well as his detailed description of Jerusalem's landscape and its sins, supports the belief by scholars that he lived in this city.

Haggai is the first of three prophetic books in the Old Testament (Haggai, Zachariah and Malachi) written after many of God’s people had returned from exile throughout what was, at that time, the Persian Empire (based on narratives in Ezra and Nehemiah the initial return of exiles to Jerusalem)...

A book containing a message of trust, commitment, and work.

    It involves a practice of:

    • meditation
    • prayer
    • and offerings

that should be done on a day to day basis to fix God in the very center of our life in order to maintain that place of peace and rest.

Matthew is the first of the four gospel writings, yet there is only one gospel about Jesus Christ and there are four different writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The word "Gospel" means "good news", and the good news is about Jesus Christ dying on the cross and then 3 days later conquering death and rising from the dead, offering salvation to all mankind, this is the Gospel.

I hope you that you'll participate in this 15-week series.
