ASHAMED OF ME AND MY WORDS

Mark 8:38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

Ashamed Of Me And My Words

Jesus sees the world system and society in which we live as an “adulterous and sinful generation.” Most of humankind are unfaithful to God’s purposes for their lives and are outright rebellious against Him. When Christ returns, He will reject those people who are more concerned about how people view them then how God views them (Matthew 7:23; 25:41-46; Luke 9:26; 13:27).

THEIR HEARTS ARE FAR FROM ME

October 17-Start Your Day Right Devotion

Mark 7:6-7 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “’These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by me.’

Their Hearts Are Far From Me

Pharisees and the teachers of the law were guilty of the sin of legalism, which substitutes outward acts or words for true godly attitudes that come from a holy relationship with God (Matthew 5:20; 5:27-28; 6:1-7; John 1:13; 3:3-6; Isaiah 1:11; Amos 4:4-5). Legalists seem to honor God with their words, but their hearts (motives and affections) are far from Him and His purposes. This means that they might appear outwardly to live right and seek what pleases God, but inwardly they have no real love for Him.
  1. Legalism is not simply living by the laws or standards of God’s Word because such standards are good and proper if based on God’s commands and principles. Rather, legalism has to do with the person’s motive for following God and His purposes. Any motive that does not flow out of a true and active faith in Christ and the desire to obey and please Him is legalism (Matthew 6:1-7; John 14:21). Legalism often involves man-made regulations that have little or nothing to do with God’s original commands. The fault of legalism is depending on theses laws and standards for spiritual worth or salvation, which is not possible apart from faith in Christ.
  2. In this age of grace (God’s undeserved favor and love expressed through Christ’s death for our sins), we are spiritually saved through faith in Christ and not our own efforts. This is not to say that Christians should neglect the instructions, disciplines and duties of Christ’s law and God’s Word. The Bible teaches us to show our love for Christ by being faithful in all these areas. The New Testament speaks of the “perfect law that gives freedom” (James 1:25), “the royal law” (James 2:8), the “law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2) and the “law of the Spirit” (Romans 8:2). In God’s Word we find
  1. Positive commands, which are things we should do and practice (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18),
  2. Negative commands, which are things we should avoid or refrain from doing (Romans 12:2)
  3. Basic principles, which are ethical truths that reflect God’s character and form the basis of His laws (1 Corinthians 8:13)
  4. Words spoken by spiritual leaders with God-given authority in spiritual matters (Ephesians 4:11-12; 1 Timothy 3:5; Hebrews 13:7,17).

MY SON, WHOM I LOVE

September 4 - Start Your Day Right Devotion

Picture
Mark 1:11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

MY SON, WHOM I LOVE

All three persons of the Trinity (the one true God in three distinct, interrelated and unified persons) are involved in Jesus’ baptism (Matthew 3:17).
  1. Here, and in other places throughout the Bible, God is revealed as a single Being (Mark 12:29; Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 45:21; Galatians 3:20; 1 Corinthians 8:5-6; Ephesians 4:6; 1 Timothy 2:5), existing in three distinct but interrelated and completely unified persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:16-17; 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 4:4-6; 1 Peter 1:2; Jude 1:20-21). Each person of the Trinity is fully divine (fully God) and equal, possessing all the special characteristics of God; yet they are not three Gods (or three parts of God), but on God. In this way, God is singular (a unity) in one sense and plural (three) in another sense. Another way this concept of God has been described is “three in Person, One in essence.”
  2. We must be careful not to misinterpret this as if the one true God has simply revealed Himself in three different “forms” or expressions at different times throughout history (as if He were God the Father in the Old Testament, Jesus in the New Testament and the Holy Spirit now). Through the centuries such false teaching has brought division in the church. The correct understanding of this doctrine (teaching or basis of belief) is that all three persons of the Godhead exist uniquely at the same time and are so completely united that they form the one true and eternal God. Bothe the Son and the Holy Spirit possess attributes that can only be true of God (Genesis 1:2; Isaiah 61:1; John 1:1, 14; Mark 5:18; 14:16; 16:8, 13; Acts 5:3-4; Romans 8:2, 26-27; 1 Corinthians 2:10-11; 2 Thessalonians 2:13; Hebrews 9:14). None of the three persons was ever made or created, but each has always existed with all the character traits, power and glory of God.
  3. This one God existing in three persons means that from all eternity (the infinite past and forever into the future) there has always existed a perfect spiritual unity, a complete love, the expression of godly character traits, an absolute knowledge and a faultless interrelationship within and among the persons of what is referred to as the “Godhead” (John 10:15; 11:27; 17:24; 1 Corinthians 2:10).

Mark 11:25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.

RECEIVE A HUNDRED TIMES

Mark 10:29-30 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brother, sisters, mothers, children, and fields – and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life.

Receive A Hundred Times

The rewards promised here are not to be understood in a literal way. This simply means that God never takes anything from His followers that He does not replace with something infinitely greater according to His purposes. The devoted follower of Christ who sacrifices for the Lord’s sake will experience the blessings and joy related to all the relationships listed here. The fact that these benefits will come with persecutions as well teaches that a life of discipleship (learning from and following Christ) is a combination of promise and persecution, blessing and suffering, grief, and glory. But “consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18).

MEN’S HEARTS

MARCH 2 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION

Mark 7:20-23 He went on: “What comes out of a man is what makes him ‘unclean.’ For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance, and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man ‘unclean.’”
MEN’S HEARTS
In this passage “makes … ‘unclean’” (Mark 7:20) means being spiritually corrupted in a way that separates a person from the life and purposes of God and ruins his or her relationship with Christ. Throughout God’s Word, the “heart” represents a person’s entire inner being, including the intellect, emotions, motives, desires and will. An impure heart will corrupt one’s thoughts, feelings, words, and actions (Proverbs 4:23; Matthew 12:34; 15:19). Those who follow Christ must live in a way that reflects a heart that is new and transformed – different from what is natural in the world – a heart that is new and transformed – different from what is natural in the world – a heart that is becoming more and more like Jesus (Luke 6:45).

LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD

OCTOBER 7 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION
Picture
Mark 12:30
Love the Lord your God
with all your heart and
with all your soul and
with all your mind and
with all your strength.
LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD
This passage contains a combination of all four aspects of the human personality mentioned in Deuteronomy 6:5 (heart, soul, strength) and Matthew 22:37 (heart, soul, mind). The primary thing God ask of anyone who truly believes in Christ and receives His spiritual salvation is a devoted love that is expressed with one’s entire being (Deuteronomy 6:5; Romans 13:9-10; 1 Corinthians 13).
  1. Loving God “with all your heart” means that He is the source and object of your greatest desires and passions; the core of your affections must be centered on Him. It means that you are completely faithful and devoted to God and that His purposes direct every area of your life. Loving God in this way requires a willingness to do anything for Him. Our love for God must be a life-directing love, inspired by His love for us – a love that caused Him to give His Son for our sake (John 3:16; Romans 8:32).
  2. Loving God “with all your soul” has to do with your deepest longings, emotions, and convictions, which must be focused on Christ and bring honor to Him (Mark 6:9-10, 33). The soul could be described as the core of who you are – the real you – meaning that your identity is completely one with that of Christ.
  3. Loving God “with all your mind” shows that serving Him is not just a matter of feelings or emotion. It is a deliberate act of your will. It means serving God with your intellect and seeking to please Him with thoughts, ideas and decisions based on His Word. Loving God with your mind requires doing what you know is right beyond how your feel or what rejection you might face from the world.
  4. Loving God “with all your strength” means that your best energies and efforts go into serving God and promoting His purposes (1 Corinthians 9:23). It also means that you are willing to persevere in your faith when circumstances are challenging or even physically exhausting. At times, loving God may involve tough choices and a willingness to share the pain of obedience as He did (Philippians 3:10). Our love is to be the kind of love expressed in Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:20; 10:31; 2 Corinthians 9:15; Ephesians 4:30; 5:1-2; Colossians 3:12-17.

    Book of Micah Bible Study

    $14.00

Here at Tailspin Farms Life in Grace Bible Study series we are starting the book of MICAH!

The book of MICAH is from the Old Testament.

The book of Micah contains many warnings of doom and prophecies of hope.

In this study on Micah I hope to provide an overview and lessons we can learn from the book of Micah.

The prophet Micah was from the small town of Moresheth Gath in southern Judah, a productive agricultural area about 25 miles southwest of Jerusalem.

Like Amos, he came from the rural countryside, probably from a family of humble status. While the prophet Isaiah was in Jerusalem addressing the king and international affairs,

Micah was a country prophet who was deeply sensitive to the social issues that affected the small towns and villages throughout Judah.

In this study on Zephaniah I hope to provide an overview and lessons we can learn from the book of Zephaniah.

Zephaniah, whose name means "the LORD hides," was a great-great-grandson of King Hezekiah of Judah and prophesied during the reign of Josiah (639-609B.C.), Judah's last godly ruler (Zephaniah 1:1). Zephaniah's reference to Jerusalem as "this place" (Zephaniah 1:4), as well as his detailed description of Jerusalem's landscape and its sins, supports the belief by scholars that he lived in this city.

Haggai is the first of three prophetic books in the Old Testament (Haggai, Zachariah and Malachi) written after many of God’s people had returned from exile throughout what was, at that time, the Persian Empire (based on narratives in Ezra and Nehemiah the initial return of exiles to Jerusalem)...

A book containing a message of trust, commitment, and work.

    It involves a practice of:

    • meditation
    • prayer
    • and offerings

that should be done on a day to day basis to fix God in the very center of our life in order to maintain that place of peace and rest.

A place that many of us venture out into the world to find, not realizing the work of the temple begins with us, inside.
