DO NOT CONFORM … BUT BE TRANSFORMED

June 12 - Start Your Day Right Devotion

Picture
Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing, and perfect will.

Do Not Conform ... But Be Transformed

Paul brings out several things in this verse:
  1. There is a very real pressure to conform “to the pattern” of this world and be squeezed into its likeness on many different levels. Christians must firmly resist the temptation to accept and imitate the world’s ways of thinking and behaving.
  2. The reason we must resist adopting the world’s way is because it is evil (Acts 2:40; Galatians 1:4), it is under Satan’s rule (John 12:31; 2 Corinthians 4:4; 1 John 5:19), it is hostile to God and His people (John 7:7; 15:18-21; James 4:4; 1 John 2:15-17) and it is built on human wisdom and values (1 Corinthians 1:17-25). The world holds a worldview that Christians cannot accept because it rejects God and His standards (Romans 1:18-32; Colossians 2:8).
  3. Christ’s kingdom is not of this world (John 18:36). This world’s kingdom is full of spiritual darkness, deception, and seduction (Matthew 5:14-16; John 3:19; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10; Ephesians 2:1-3; 1 Peter 2:9; Revelation 12:9). Christ’s followers are called to be a light in the midst of this darkness (Matthew 5:14-16; Ephesians 5:8-11). Our lives should reflect a positive difference that those in the world cannot help but notice. This includes resisting the temptation to conform to the varied types of worldliness common in society, including greed, selfishness, humanistic thinking, a desire for power, envy, hate, revenge, filthy language, sexual lust and impurity, ungodly entertainment, fashions that are immodest and seductive, substance abuse, relationships that do not honor God and other such things that defy the standards of God’s Word (Ephesians 5:3-16; 1 John 2:15-17).
  4. Instead of conforming to the world’s values and lifestyles, our minds must continually be renewed and transformed (changed) to God’s way of thinking (1 Corinthians 2:16; Philippians 2:5). This can only happen as we spend time reading and meditating on His Word (pondering over and over what it means and how it applies to our lives; Psalms 119:11, 148; John 8:31-32; 15:7). This will allow our visions, values, behaviors and plans to be directed by God’s eternal truth, rather than by the world’s temporary and deceptive pattern.

THE SPIRIT HIMSELF TESTIFIES

Romans 8:16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

The Spirit Himself Testifies

As we follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit and remain in right relationship with Jesus, the Spirit gives us the confidence that we are God’s children (Romans 8:15). He makes us aware that Jesus continues to love us and that He is our constant mediator in heaven (Hebrews 7:25). The Spirit also shows us that God the Father loves us as His adopted children no less than He loves His one and only Son, Jesus (John 14:21, 23; 17:23); and He reminds us of the reward Jesus will share with us in heaven. Finally, the Spirit creates in us the love and confidence by which we cry to Him, “Abba, Father” (Romans 8:15) – which is an expression of a deeply personal relationship with and access to God.

SPIRIT HIMSELF INTERCEDES FOR US

Romans 8:26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.

Spirit Himself Intercedes For Us

Concerning the Holy Spirit’s activity in helping us pray, three observations are important:
  1. As children of God, we have two main intercessors (mediators – ones who plead a case for others or take responsibility for others’ needs and situations): Christ intercedes for us in heaven (Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25; 1 John 2:1), and the Holy Spirit intercedes from within us on earth.
  2. “With groans” probably indicates that the Spirit communicates with God the Father through our desperate inner cries and the longings of our hearts when we do not have words adequate to express our needs and desires to God.
  3. The desires of our hearts must come from the Holy spirit, who lives within us. He appeals to the Father for our needs “in accordance with God’s will” (Romans 8:27). When His desires become our desires, our prayers will be effective.

SAVED THROUGH HIS LIFE

Romans 5:10 For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

Saved Through His Life

Accepting God’s gracious gift of forgiveness, made available through Jesus’ personal sacrifice, is the first step of spiritual salvation (Romans 3:21-26; 4:5-9). It is the point at which we begin to walk the path of personal companionship with Christ toward the destination of eternal life with Him. We continue to be saved as we live by faith and obedience to Christ. If God loved us enough to send His Son to die for us while we were His enemies (Romans 5:8), how much more, now that we are His children, will He make every provision to preserve our relationship with Him as we continue to live by faith. If we are forgiven and made right with God through Jesus’ sacrificial death, how much more does His resurrection from the dead guarantee our salvation and eternal life with God (Romans 4:22- 5:22; 5:9-10; 1 Corinthians 1:30; Philippians 2:12-16; Colossians 3:3-4; 1 Thessalonians 1:10; 2 Timothy 2:12; James 1:12; Revelation 2:7).

JUSTIFIED FREELY BY HIS GRACE THROUGH THE REDEMPTION

Romans 3:24 And are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that come by Christ Jesus.

Justified Freely By His Grace Through The Redemption

This verse contains two of the most common words that Paul used to express the concept of salvation: “justified” and “redemption.” The root meaning of “redemption” (Greek apolutrosis) is ransom by the payment of a price. To be redeemed means to be paid for, purchased, bought back, or restored. It also relates to being rescued, liberated, and set free. “To be justified” (Greek dikaioo) means to be “righteous in God’s sight” (Romans 2:13), to be “made righteous” (Romans 5:18-19), to “establish as right” or to “set or put something right.” In a judicial sense, it means to be declared “not guilty.”

SO THAT IT MAY BE BY GRACE

March 30- Start Your Day Right Devotion

Romans 4:16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring – not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.

So That It May Be By Grace

If spiritual salvation and a right relationship with God came by perfect obedience to God’s law, no one would be saved. But since it comes through faith by God’s grace, then all who turn to God for mercy can be saved. Mercy could be described as God keeping us from consequences and judgment we deserve. Grace could be described as God granting us favor and benefits, we do not deserve. God provided His grace through His Son, Jesus, who gave His life to pay the penalty for our offenses against God. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, God mercifully forgives sins and extends His grace through His Holy Spirit, whose power transforms believers’ lives and makes them God’s children. Christ’s followers continue to experience God’s grace through the presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit, who gives them the desire and power to fulfill God’s purposes for their lives (John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 15:10; Philippians 2:13; 1 Timothy 1:15-16).

OBEYED THE FORM OF TEACHING

3/4/2022

MARCH 4- START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION
Picture
Romans 6:17 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.
OBEYED THE FORM OF TEACHING
In the early church, new followers of Christ were committed to certain defined standards of teaching and conduct, based on the principles and instructions given by Jesus and His apostles (those Jesus directly commissioned to deliver His original message and to lead the effort to establish His church; Matthew 5-7; Acts 2:42).
  1. These standards were most likely a summary of the moral and ethical teachings of Christ, which new believers committed to follow when they accepted Christ as their new Master. It is the “sound doctrine” or “sound teaching” referred to in the Pastoral Letters (1 Timothy 1:10; 2 Timothy 1:13; 4:3; Titus 1:9; 2:1).
  2. The Bible’s teaching removes any thought or idea that Christianity has no set pattern to regulate a believer’s thoughts and actions, or that having rules of conduct is “legalism” (relying on God’s law and good works to gain spiritual salvation or favor with God). True Christianity requires obedience to godly standards, yet it is not forced upon the believer. It is a willing expression of love and gratitude to Christ (Mark 7:6).

Matthew is the first of the four gospel writings, yet there is only one gospel about Jesus Christ and there are four different writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The word "Gospel" means "good news", and the good news is about Jesus Christ dying on the cross and then 3 days later conquering death and rising from the dead, offering salvation to all mankind, this is the Gospel.

I hope you that you'll participate in this 15-week series.

    Book of Micah Bible Study

    $14.00

Here at Tailspin Farms Life in Grace Bible Study series we are starting the book of MICAH!

The book of MICAH is from the Old Testament.

The book of Micah contains many warnings of doom and prophecies of hope.

In this study on Micah I hope to provide an overview and lessons we can learn from the book of Micah.

The prophet Micah was from the small town of Moresheth Gath in southern Judah, a productive agricultural area about 25 miles southwest of Jerusalem.

Like Amos, he came from the rural countryside, probably from a family of humble status. While the prophet Isaiah was in Jerusalem addressing the king and international affairs,

Micah was a country prophet who was deeply sensitive to the social issues that affected the small towns and villages throughout Judah.

I invite you to go through this Bible Study with me.

    Thank you,

    Margarita
