Romans 7:4 So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God.

DIED TO THE LAW 

We no longer depend on the Old Testament law and sacrifices in order to have and continue our relationship with God or to gain access to and acceptance from Him (Galatians 3:23-25; 4:4-5).

1. God has freed us from the guilt and consequences of not being able to live up to the requirements of His old covenant law. Christ Himself fulfilled the law (Matthew 5:17) and made a new covenant based on His life, death and resurrection. This covenant is a "life agreement" that was sealed in His own blood (Romans3:25). Because of Christ's sacrificial death, we can now look to Him in faith for forgiveness and a renewed relationship with God.
2. Having believed in Jesus (1 John 5:13) and having received His Spirit and grace we can experience the benefits of His forgiveness and of being "born again" spiritually. This renewed life includes the power of God's Spirit, which enables us to "bear fruit to God" (Romans 6:22-23; Ephesians 2:10; Galatians 5:22-23; Colossians 1:5-6) and to fulfill the moral requirements of God's law (Romans 8:3-4; Matthew 5:17). We obey God not out of duty, but out of love and gratitude to Christ.
