Romans 1:4 And who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by His resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

​THE SPIRIT OF HOLINESS

​The “Spirit of holiness” refers to the Holy Spirit, the third person in the divine Trinity (the one true God in three distinct, interrelated and unified persons, Mark 1:11). His holiness (purity, perfection, completeness and separation from evil) separates Him distinctly from the spirit of humanity, sin and the world, and describes both His greatest characteristic and His work (Galatians 5:16; Galatians 5:17; Galatians 5:18; Galatians 5:19; Galatians 5:20-21; Galatians 5:22-24). The Holy Spirit’s power was on and in Jesus’ life in such a way that it unmistakably confirmed His identity as God’s Son who came as the Christ (the promised Savior). This power was particularly evident through Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.

​The Holy Spirit reveals to believers more about Jesus. Through the Spirit, Christian’s experience Jesus’ presence, love, forgiveness, character, power, spiritual gifts, healing and all other benefits of our faith and relationship with Christ (John 14:16; John 14:17; John 14:18; John 14:21; John 14:23). The Holy Spirit does not draw attention to Himself, but He brings honor to Christ. The Spirit makes us more aware of Jesus’ presence in our lives, which will strengthen our faith and inspire us to love, obey and worship God with more passion.

Luke 5:17 One day as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law, who had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem, were sitting there. And the power of the Lord was present for him to heal the sick.

​THE POWER OF THE LORD WAS PRESENT

​The word translated “power” (Greek dunamis) means “might, power or strength.” In the New Testament, it is most often used of God’s power. The plural, dunameies, is used to describe Jesus’ miracles. The gospel (“good news” and message) of Christ is God’s power for salvation (Romans 1:16). The Holy Spirit gives powerful gifts and ministries in and through Christ’s followers. The power (dunamis) of God is directly related to the ongoing healing ministry of Jesus through His church (Acts 4:33; Acts 5:12-16; 6:8).

2 Chronicles 1:12 Therefore, wisdom and knowledge will be given to you. And I will also give you wealth, riches and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have.

​WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE WILL BE GIVEN YOU

​Although God gave Solomon extraordinary wisdom and knowledge (1 Kings 3:9-10; 4:29-34), this did not guarantee that he would remain faithful to God. For this reason, God told Solomon to be careful to follow Him and to obey His commands (1 Kings 3:14). Possessing wisdom or an exceptional knowledge of God’s Word does not guarantee that a person will know or live for God. Having wisdom and using it are two different things; true wisdom is wisdom that we apply to situations in our daily lives. Later in life, Solomon rebelled against God and failed to do what he knew was right (1 Kings 11:1-11). The result was that God rejected Solomon’s ways (1 Kings 9:6-9).

Those who are not spiritually mature (James 1:4) and have not made it their purpose or goal to become wise and mature will be unstable and easily snared by temptations (James 1:13), wrong teaching (Ephesians 4:14) and other difficult and deceptive issues. Such people are not ready to become what God wants them to be.

​We are capable of being affected by Satan’s temptations because of the sinful nature within us (our inborn tendency to go our own way and to defy God and His standards; see Romans 5:12; Romans 6:2; Matthew 15:19). If we follow the pull of our nature toward defiance and rebellion, temptation will take us down a road that leads to sin and finally to spiritual death (James 1:15; Romans 6:23; Romans 7:5, 10, 13).
