(KJ) Genesis 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

THERE WAS EVENING, AND THERE WAS MORNING - THE FIRST DAY

This phrase is repeated six times in Genesis 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31). The Hebrew word for day is yom, which normally means a twenty-four-hour period (Genesis 7:17; Matthew 17:1), or the daylight portion of the twenty-four-hour ("day" as distinct from "night"). But it also can refer to a time period of undetermined length ("harvest time," Proverbs 25:13). Many believe the creation days were twenty-four-hour days because each had an "evening" and a "morning" (Genesis 1:5; Exodus 20:11). Others believe that "evening" and "morning" simply mean that each evening marked an end to the stage of creation and the next morning indicated a new beginning.

YOUR SHIELD, YOUR VERY GREAT REWARD

September 7-Start Your Day Right Devotion

Picture
(KJ) Genesis 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying. Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

YOUR SHIELD, YOUR VERY GREAT REWARD

After his battle with the kings, Abram became anxious and afraid. God reassured Abram in a vision that He would continue to bless and protect him. But Abram was concerned that he did not have an heir (Genesis 15:2), so he suggested that he adopt one of his servants. God rejected the idea, promising Abram that he and his wife, Sarai, would still have a son (Genesis 11:30). Many more descendants would come through that son. What made Abram great was that he believed God. That kind of faith is why God considered Abram a righteous person (Genesis 15:6).

UNTIL HE COMES TO WHOM IT BELONGS

July 3 - Start Your Day Right Devotion

Picture
Genesis 49:10 The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs, and the obedience of the nations is his.

UNTIL HE COMES TO WHOM IT BELONGS

The blessing, with all its rights and privileges, that Jacob spoke over Judah, a younger son (Genesis 49:8-12), would normally have been said for the firstborn, including the blessing promised to Abraham (Genesis 12:1-3). The most important point was that all nations would be blessed through him (Genesis 3:15).
  1. Judah's descendants would hold a position of general authority over the other tribes of Israel "until He comes to whom it belongs" (Genesis 49:8-10). This part of the promise was fulfilled in part when Israel's royal line came through King David, a descendant of Judah.
  2. "He comes to whom it belongs" (Ezekiel 21:27) refers to the one who would be the final fulfillment of the promise, namely, the coming Messiah and God's Son, Jesus Christ, who also came from the tribe of Judah (Revelation 5:5). Jacob prophesied that all people would obey the Messiah (Genesis 49:10; Revelation 19:15) and that He would bring great spiritual blessing (Genesis 49:11-12).

THE SONS OF GOD

Genesis 6:1-2 When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.

THE SONS OF GOD

The phrase, “sons of God,” most likely refers to men who were descendants of the godly family line of Seth (Deuteronomy 14:1; 32:5; Psalms 73:15; Hosea 1:10). But they began to intermarry (form marriages between two groups) with the “daughters of men,” who likely were women from Cain’s ungodly family (Genesis 4:16). The theory that the “sons of God” were angels in unlikely because Jesus said that angels do not marry (Matthew 22:30; Mark 12:25). This union of the godly with the ungodly led to “wickedness” (Genesis 6:5). The godly became so preoccupied with evil that all thew world became corrupt and filled with violence (Genesis 6:11-13).

HEART IS EVIL FROM CHILDHOOD

Genesis 8:21 The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart “Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.

HEART IS EVIL FROM CHILDHOOD

The Lord is simply stating a fact about the corruption and depravity (extreme moral loss) of human nature. Human beings are born with an inward pull toward evil. The pull of this sinful nature is evident from early childhood (Romans 3:10-18).

HOW GREAT MAN’S WICKEDNESS

Genesis 6:5 The LORD saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.

HOW GREAT MAN'S WICKEDNESS

In Noah’s day, sin was extremely evident in two ways: sexual lust (Genesis 6:2) and violence (Genesis 6:11). Human wickedness and corruption have not changed. Evil that we once could not have imagined, including sexual sins of all kinds as well as violence, is evident throughout the world (Matthew 24:37-39; Romans 1:32).

ADAM LIVED 930 YEARS

Picture
Genesis 5:5 Altogether, Adam lived 930 years, and then he died.

ADAM LIVED 930 YEARS

The reason that people lived so long during Adam’s time may have been because sin’s corrupting influence had just started to affect the health of the earth (the environment) and the physical bodies of all human beings. By Abraham’s time, it was normal to live only about two hundred years.
