DAY OF THE LORD IS NEAR The destruction of Babylon is a type (a prophetic symbol) that represents the end-time destruction of all God’s enemies, that end-time event will happen after God’s severe judgments on the earth and its people during the period often referred to as the tribulation (Matthew 24:21-22; Revelation 15-16). Isaiah puts these events together here (Ezekiel 32:7; Joel 2:10; 3:16; Haggai 2:6-7, 21-22; Zechariah 14:6-7). The final overthrow and destruction of the world’s corrupt political and religious systems that have opposed God and His people throughout history also are prophesied in Revelation 14:17-18.
