June 27- Start Your Day Right Devotion (KJ) John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. HEARS & BELIEVESJesus describes those who have eternal life (who have a personal relationship with God and will live with Him forever) and who will not be condemned as “whoever hears…and believes.” The verbs “hears” (Greek akouon, form akouo) and “believes” (Greek pisteuoon, from pisteuoo) are present participles, which show ongoing action (“whoever is, or keeps on, hearing and believing”). This means that the “hearing” and “believing” are not acts of a single moment, but actions that must continue (John 1:12). To “hear” in Biblical terms suggests listening and responding; it means putting into practice what you learn. Christ affirms that having eternal life is conditional on a living and growing faith rather than on a momentary decision at some point in the past (John 1:12; 4:14). "Condemned" (Greek krisis) is used int the sense of being headed for eternal spiritual death. Christ's followers will not be condemned with the rest of the world (1 Corinthians 11:32). However, they will still be held accountable for their actions and judged according to their faithfulness with the opportunities and resources God gave them while on earth.
