March 23 - Start Your Day Right Devotion

John 14:25-26 All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

HOLY SPIRIT

The Counselor is identified here as the “Holy Spirit.” For New Testament Christians, the most important thing about the Spirit is the fact that He is “Holy.” That is to say, our relationship with the Holy Spirit is not simply about what He does or provides for us (His power, Acts 1:8), but about His character and who He is – “the Holy Spirit.” When referring to God, holiness means purity, perfection, completeness, and separation from evil.  The Holy Spirit’s character, along with the expression of that character in the lives of Christ’s followers, is what matters most (Romans 1:4; Galatians 5:22-26). Those who serve Jesus and have the Spirit living in them must reflect His holiness through moral purity, spiritual wholeness and integrity, separation from evil and devotion to God’s purposes. When the Spirit’s character is evident in the lives of Christians, they will have greater spiritual power and be more effective in communicating Christ’s message to others (which is the primary purpose of the baptism in the Spirit Acts 1:8).
