I DESIRE TO DO YOUR WILL

​Hebrews 10:5-10 quotes Psalms 40:6-8 of the Psalm from the Septuagint (the Greek translation of the Hebrew Old Testament) and applies them to Jesus Christ. Psalms 40:6 refers to the fact that the rituals and regulations of the old covenant were incomplete, but through Christ the entire law was fulfilled (Matthew 5:17; Hebrews 10:1-10).   refers prophetically to Christ’s coming into the world to bring spiritual salvation and to repair our broken relationship with God (Luke 24:27; John 5:46). Christ’s obedience to His Father and His message of righteousness is emphasized in Psalms 40:8-1 (Philippians 2:5-8). The theme of Jesus’ whole life was, “Here I am, I have come to do your will” (Hebrews 10:9). It is because of Christ’s obedience to the point of death that those who trust Him are made holy (spiritually pure, blameless, and set apart for God’s purposes, Hebrews 10:10). God can now put His laws in their hearts and minds (Hebrews 10:16). For this reason, every follower of Christ must affirm Christ’s words in his or her own life, “Here I am, I come to do your will.”
