MAY 22 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION  Matthew 16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose o earth will be loosed in heaven. KEYS OF THE KINGDOM In the original Greek, the tense of the phrases about binding and loosing literally mean that whatever His true followers bind or loose on earth “will have already been bound” or “will have already been loosed” in heaven. Therefore, Christians are not establishing a new authority of their own. Instead, it is a matter of being close enough to God to recognize what He has done so that they can simply announce God’s actions and work within His authority. The “keys” represent God’s authority, which He passed on to His followers in the church -His kingdom representatives on earth. With these keys 1. They expose and speak out against sin and carry out church discipline (Matthew 18:15-18) 2. They pray effectively for God’s purposes on earth (Matthew 19-20) 3. They restrict and defeat demonic powers and set spiritual captives free 4. They preach about the guilt of sin, God’s standard of righteousness and the judgment to com (Acts 2:23; 5:3,9) 5. They proclaim the opportunity for forgiveness and spiritual salvation for all who turn from their own sinful way and follow Christ (John 20:23: Acts 2:37-40; 15:7-9). BIBLE STUDY TOOLS I USE:
