MORE GRACE

MAY 21 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION 

James 4:6-8
But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

MORE GRACE

​While God opposes the proud, He gives an increasing measure of grace to the humble. God’s grace is His unearned and undeserved favor, mercy, kindness, consideration, help and spiritual empowerment. God’s grace allows us to respond to Him and gives us power to do and be what He desires. James gives five means of obtaining “more grace” (Verse 6):

1. “Submit…to God (Verse 7) by surrendering your desires and plans to Him.
2. “Resist the devil” (Verse 7) by not giving in to his temptations.
3. “Come near to God” (Verse 8) in worship, thanksgiving, prayer, time in His Word and companionship with the Holy Spirit.
4. “Wash your hands” (Verse 8) by confessing sin and getting your outward life right with God.
5. “Purify your hearts” (Verse 8) by letting God cleanse your inner life and thoughts.

Relating to God in these ways as a pattern for our lives will allow us to experience God’s grace to the fullest. We will have victory over sin and Satan and be effective in our service to God.
