OCTOBER 20 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION

1 Peter 5:2 Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under you care, serving as overseers – not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be not greedy for money, but eager to serve.

NOT GREEDY FOR MONEY

Church leaders must beware of two dangerous sins:

The desire for money (1 Timothy 3:3, 8; Titus 1:7). The New Testament standard for those who oversee God’s work is to receive adequate support from the church (Luke 10:7; 1 Corinthians 9:14; 1 Timothy 5:17) and to be content with basic and necessary provisions for themselves and their families. Not minister ought to make himself or herself rich from God’s work. Those who fall victim to this temptation open themselves up to sins of greed, compromise, and theft. For the sake of money, they compromise the standards and teaching of God’s Word and the principles of His kingdom.
The desire for power. Those greedy for power are likely to dominate those whom they are to serve by excessively using their authority. Instead, the pastor must lead the church, humble service, integrity, faithfulness to truth, commitment to prayer and love for God’s Word.
