Romans 6:2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

SIN

The New Testament uses several Greek words to reflect the various sides of sin. The most important ones are:
Hamartia – this means sin as a “transgression,” “wrongdoing” or “offense against God” (John 9:41). This includes any act of disobedience against God’s commands, instructions, or standards.
Adikia – this means sin as a “wrongdoing,” “wickedness” or “injustice” (Romans 1:18; 1 John 5:17). It also can be described as a lack of love since all wrongdoing stems from a lack of love and consideration for God and others (Matthew 22:37-40; Luke 10:27-37). Adikia is also a power that can enslave and deceive (Romans 5:12; Hebrews 3:13).
Anomia – this means sin as “lawlessness” and “defiance of God’s law” (Romans 6:19; 1 John 3:4).
Apistia – this means sin as “unbelief” or “unfaithfulness” (Romans 3:3; Hebrews 3:12).
From these definitions we see that sin is basically selfishness – pursuing our own interests and pleasures and ignoring the commands of God and the welfare of others. This leads to cruelty to others and to rebellion against God and His law. In general, sin is going our own way independent of God (Isaiah 53:6). That is, sin is the refusal to submit to God and His Word (Romans 1:18-25; 8:7; 5:10; Colossians 1:21; Ephesians 2:2; 5:6).
Sin is also a moral corruption – an inborn part of our human nature and personality – that stands against the good that humankind could choose. It causes us to delight in doing what is not right and also to take pleasure in the evil actions of others (Romans 1:21-32; Genesis 6:5). It is also a power that enslaves and corrupts (Romans3:9; 6:12; 7:14; Galatians 3:22). Sin is rooted in human desire (James 1:14; 4:1-2; 1 Peter 2:11).
Sin was brought into the human race through the first human, Adam (Romans 5:12). It affects everyone (Romans 5:12, results in God’s judgment (Romans 1:18) and brings physical and spiritual death (Romans 6:23 Genesis 2:17). Only by faith in Christ and by acceptance of His sin-covering, forgiveness providing, and life-restoring work is the power of sin broken (Romans 5:8-11; Galatians 3:13; Ephesians 4:20-24; 1 John 1:9; Revelation 1:5).
