March 25-Start Your Day Right Devotion Hebrews 1:1-2 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in theses last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. SPOKEN TO US BY HIS SON These verses establish a major them of this letter: in the past God’s revelation and prophetic Word to us came literally “ in many parts and in many ways” (Hebrews 1:1), primarily through His prophets. In a general sense, this refers to the sum total of what we have in the Old Testament section of the Bible. Yet, all of this did not give us the complete sum of what God wanted us to know and what we would need to know. But now God has spoken and revealed Himself to us by His Son, Jesus Christ, in a full and complete way. Because Christ is supreme over all things, God’s Word through Him is complete – above and beyond all previous words and revelation from God through the prophets or any other source. Absolutely nothing – neither prophets (Hebrews 1:1) nor angels (Hebrews 1:4) nor Moses – has equal authority with God’s Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only way to a renewed relationship with God (John 14:6), the only source of eternal salvation and the only mediator ( a go-between) with God and humans. The author confirms Christ’s supremacy by listing seven great revelations about Him as God the Son (Hebrews 1:2; Hebrews 1:3). BIBLE STUDY TOOLS I USE
