THE SPIRIT OF HOLINESS The “Spirit of holiness” refers to the Holy Spirit, the third person in the divine Trinity (the one true God in three distinct, interrelated and unified persons, Mark 1:11). His holiness (purity, perfection, completeness and separation from evil) separates Him distinctly from the spirit of humanity, sin and the world, and describes both His greatest characteristic and His work (Galatians 5:16; Galatians 5:17; Galatians 5:18; Galatians 5:19; Galatians 5:20-21; Galatians 5:22-24). The Holy Spirit’s power was on and in Jesus’ life in such a way that it unmistakably confirmed His identity as God’s Son who came as the Christ (the promised Savior).
