THIS PSALM OF THANKS

This psalm (a poem or song) is a composite of Psalms 105:1-15; 96:1-13; 106:1, 47-48. David used this form of praise and thanksgiving to celebrate God’s mercy and wonderful acts for Israel. Under the new covenant, all of Christ’s true followers today are considered priests of God (1 Peter 2:5, 9; Revelation 20:6) and are authorized and responsible to offer the spiritual ministry of praise and thanksgiving to God. “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of lips that confess His name” (Hebrews 13:15). Christians must praise and worship God in both words and actions. When we live in such a way that truly brings honor to God, then our worship truly becomes a sacrifice to Him (1 Chronicles 16:29). Praise is only pleasing to God as long as the person offering it is genuinely committed to His Word and not conformed to the world’s ungodly pattern (Romans 12:1-2).
