DECEMBER 15 - START YOU DAY RIGHT DEVOTION

Titus 3:5-7 He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

WASHING OF REBIRTH

This phrase refers to the new spiritual birth that takes place in the lives of those who accept God’s forgiveness, submit their lives to Christ and begin following His purposes for their lives. Such individuals are spiritually “born again” (John 3:3-7). This event is symbolized in Christian baptism (Acts 22:16; Romans 6:4). “Renewal by the Holy Spirit” points to the life-transforming power of the Holy Spirit that comes to reside within a person who accepts Christ by faith and enters a personal relationship with Him. The Spirit constantly infuses the Christian with the life of God as he or she continues to surrender his or her life to the Lord (Romans 12:2).

POURED OUT ON US GENEROUSLY

Paul’s reference here to the Holy Spirit’s work points back to the outpouring of the Spirit (when God generously sent the Spirit to fill and empower Jesus’ followers) on the day of Pentecost and ever since (Acts 2:33; 11:15). God provides a generous supply of His power and grace (His undeserved favor, love, help and spiritual enablement) to Christ’s faithful followers as a result of the new birth and the Spirit’s work in them.
