AUTHORITY TO DRIVE OUT EVIL SPIRITS

Jesus wants His followers to spiritually stand against the forces of evil by driving out evil spirits (commanding them to release control of ungodly individuals whose bodies they have inhabited) and by healing the sick (who may also be troubled and discouraged by Satan). This show of authority in the spiritual realm is one way that the power and purposes of God's kingdom remain active on earth. We do not possess such authority in ourselves, but only through the power and authority of Christ. For this reason, it is important that we live in a way that is worthy of Christ; otherwise, we will lack the spiritual power to face the direct attacks of supernatural powers of evil.
