Our lil man Worm will be greatly missed. From the day he was born we bottle fed him. That is how he got his name. He would not be still to drink his bottle. We loved this little dog! What keeps coming to my mind is a poem that I read years ago. I'm not sure who wrote it. Waiting at the Door... I was just a pup when we first met, I loved you from the start, you picked me up and took me home and placed me in your heart. Good times we had together, we shared all life could throw, but years passed all too quickly, my time has come to go. I know home much you miss me, I know your heart is sore, I see the tears that fall when I'm not Waiting at the Door. You always did your best for my your love was plain to see, for even though it broke your heart you set my spirit free. So please be brave without me, one day we'll meet once more, for when you're called to Heaven I'll be Waiting at the Door. Blessings,

Living in Texas, you know the weather here can be a little crazy. From extreme heat and drought, to out of nowhere downpours, everything here really is bigger. That’s why when working on your farm to keep hydrated during this summer heat wave. The summer heat can be unforgiving. In summer, the heat is on for farmers in more ways than one. Your to-do list is seemingly endless, and the temps and humidity can take their toll. While you work, your internal temperature rises, and the hot weather offers no reprieve, creating rough conditions. We have listed some tips for you to think about when the temperature is up. Knowing your body and when it needs water. Did you know that dehydration can change your mood? If you start to notice a lack of focus, or your energy and possibly even your mood shifting, these may all be signs of dehydration. You want to catch these signs early, by the time your mouth feels dry you will already be dehydrated. Be sure to pay attention to how your body feels, it is important as an active person to know the signs that your body gives you. Dress the part Protective clothing is one of the best ways to stay cool while working in the heat. Shield yourself from the sun by covering up with a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses. Although you might be tempted to dress minimally to keep cool, wearing a long-sleeved shirt and pants tucked into boots will help prevent ticks, other bugs and poisonous vegetation from wreaking havoc. Wear light-colored, loose-fitting, and breathable clothing like cotton. Drink up Drinking 1 cup of water every 15 to 20 minutes during moderate activity. If you’re working outside in the heat, you’ll want to stay ahead of those numbers to avoid dehydration. We also use Drip Drop ORS Electrolyte Powder. We purchased it from Amazon. Mix it in your water for fast relief from dehydration. Your urine is a good indicator as to whether you need to be drinking more water. Ideally you want your urine to look clear. You might swear by your morning cup of coffee to get you going, but avoid drinking caffeine all day or adding sugary or alcoholic beverages to the mix. All of these items can dehydrate you. Keep your cool Find a shady spot where you can take frequent breaks during hot weather. That could be the air-conditioned cab of your truck or even an outbuilding. Eat regular meals and include a lightly salted snack or two throughout the day for energy and balancing electrolytes. If possible, schedule demanding tasks for early morning or evening when it’s cooler. Mind your meds Your body might have difficulty cooling down or it may heat up more quickly if you take certain medications or have certain medical conditions. Talk to your physician before working in the heat this summer to find out if you’re at an increased risk for heat-related illness and need to take additional precautions. Know the symptoms Heat-related illness can sneak up quickly. Keep an eye out for the warning signs and act fast in the event of heat stroke, heat exhaustion and heat cramps. Heat stroke Happens when the body can no longer control its temperature and is unable to cool down. Heat stroke is a medical emergency, and you should call 911 immediately. Heat exhaustion Is the body’s response to dehydration. If you are experiencing signs of heat exhaustion, ask a fellow worker or family member for assistance; you shouldn’t be left alone, and you may need medical treatment. Heat cramps Occur when your body sweats out too much salt and can also be a sign of heat exhaustion. Drink a sports drink or try water with a salty snack. Seek medical attention if you’re on a low-sodium diet, have heart issues or if your cramps don’t go away after an hour. More on Drip Drop ORS on our YouTube Channel. Margarita & Stace Bruising more easily can be a symptom of rheumatoid arthritis. Joint pain is the hallmark symptom of rheumatoid arthritis, but this disease can attack healthy tissue throughout the body, in places where you may not expect it. RA symptoms and their severity vary from one person and may stop for a period, only to return later on. Here are several lesser known - but sometimes serious - symptoms that can come with rheumatoid arthritis. Bruising Easily Autoimmune diseases like RA can cause your blood platelet count to dip below the normal level. Essentially, due to RA, your body uses or destroys platelets faster than it produces them, which can cause you to bruise more easily. Certain medications taken for RA, like the corticosteroid prednisone, are also known to increase the likelihood of bruising. (My doctor does a physical exam and runs a complete blood count to determine whether I have low platelet levels due to my RA or the medication.) Allover Weakness or Fatigue What doctors call anemia of inflammation and chronic disease (AI/ACK) should not be confused with iron-deficiency anemia, the most common form of this condition. AI/ACD is the second most common form of anemia and, as the name suggests, it’s associated with chronic diseases, inflammatory disorders like RA, lupus, and cancer. This is how my doctor explained it to me; in both AI/ACD and iron-deficiency anemia, there are low levels of iron circulating in the blood. In AI/ACD, however, blood iron levels are low even though stored iron levels are normal or high. This occurs because inflammatory conditions like RA interfere with the way the body uses stored iron and iron from diet. Common signs of AI/ACD include weakness, fatigue, pale skin, fast heartbeat and shortness of breath. Skin conditions and Rashes RA can even affect your skin. Up to 25% of people with RA develop rheumatoid nodules - lumps of tissue under the skin - and many also experience itchy hands and feet and skin rashes. Painful rashes, skin ulcers, or mouth sores may be symptoms of a more serious condition related to RA. Itchy and Dry Eyes Eye conditions like dry-eye syndrome, are relatively common symptoms in people who have RA. Dry eye, which can cause blurred vision, occurs more often in women than in men. I use a humidifier and preservative - free eye drops can help with my dry-eye. Ask your doctor what will help you if you have dry-eye. Sharp Chest Pain RA inflammation can cause chest pain that is not related to your heart or cardiovascular system. Irritation of the cost sternal joints (the cartilage that connects a rib to the breastbone) can be very painful, and because it’s common to think of a heart attack when chest pain is present, it can be a scary experience. But this kind of pain is not the result of a heart condition. My husband had gone through this kind of pain. Doctor did all kinds of tests and said he was fine...once his chest pain was diagnosed a “costochondritis” - being related to joint pain, rather than cardiac problems - the recommended treatment was to take an over-the-counter pain reliever such as Tylenol or Advil or Motrin, ibuprofen. Soreness in Your Ankles and Feet RA can cause problems in the ankle and foot, including pain, sore joints, redness, swelling and inflammation, or warmth. Ask your doctor about medications that would help with this condition. What helps me is warm showers, soaking in a warm bath, and also trying different footwear. Some links may be affiliated.
