1 Thessalonians 5:9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

NOT APPOINT US TO SUFFER WRATH

One reason why the hope of Christ’s return in such a comfort to Christians (1 Thessalonians 4:17-18) is that His return means rescue from God’s terrible wrath (the judgments of “the day of the Lord”; 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3; Revelation 6:16-17; 11:18; 14:10, 19; 15:1, 7; 16:1, 19; 19:15).

LET US BE ALERT

Picture
1 Thessalonians 5:6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled.

LET US BE ALERT

“Be alert” (Greek gregoreo) means more than simply focusing one’s attention at the moment. This word carries the sense that one is to “stay awake and keep watch.” Paul is not challenging his readers to “be alert” for the “day of the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 5:2), but rather to be spiritually prepared in order to escape that day of wrath – God’s justified anger, judgment and punishment (1 Thessalonians 2:11-12; Luke 21:34-36).
  1. If we want to escape God’s wrath (1 Thessalonians 5:3), We must remain spiritually awake and morally alert. We must persevere in faith, love and the hope of full and complete salvation (1 Thessalonians 5:8-9; Luke 21:36; Ephesians 6:11) that comes by holding fast to our commitment to Christ until He returns.
  2. Since God’s faithful people will be protected from His wrath (1 Thessalonians 5:2), they need not fear the day of the Lord. With expectation, they can “wait for His Son from heaven…Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath” (1 Thessalonians 1:10).

1 Thessalonians 5:4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.

YOU, BROTHERS, ARE NOT IN DARKNESS

True Christians do not live in the spiritual darkness of rebellion and sin (their own God-defying way). They belong to the “day” that comes before God’s appointed night of wrath and judgment, which His people are destined to escape (1 Thessalonians 5:8-9).

1 Thessalonians 5:3 While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

PEACE AND SAFETY

It is the unbeliever – one who is not spiritually saved and does not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ – who will be saying, “Peace and safety.” This could mean that the world will be expecting and hoping for peace. The day of the Lord and its worldwide distress will come on them suddenly, destroying any hope for peace and security.

“THE DAY OF THE LORD”

1/7/2023

January - Start Your Day Right Devotion

Picture
1 Thessalonians 5:2 For you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

“THE DAY OF THE LORD”

The “day of the Lord” normally does not refer to a 24-hour day, but rather to an extended period of time when God’s enemies are overthrown (Isaiah 2:12-21; 13:9-16; 34:1-4; Jeremiah 46:10; Joel 1:15 – 2:11, 28; 3:9, 12-17; Amos 5:18-20; Zechariah 14:1-3), followed by Christ’s earthly reign (Zephaniah 3:14-17; Revelation 20:4-7).
  1. This “day” begins following the rapture of the church when Christ’s followers will be taken suddenly from the earth to escape the end-time judgments to come on the world (1 Thessalonians 5:3). The period of those judgments – referred to as the “great tribulation” – is included within the day of the Lord (Revelation 6-19; 6:1). This time of widespread distress and judgment ends with Christ’s literal return to earth to defeat the forces of the antichrist and destroy all of God’s enemies (Joel 1:14; 2:30-31; Zephaniah 1:7; Revelation 16:16; 19:11-21).
  2. The day of the Lord will occur at a time when people are hoping for peace and safety (1 Thessalonians 5:3).
  3. The “day” will not come as a surprise to faithful believers – “like a thief in the night” – because they have accepted Christ’s salvation (His forgiveness, new life and a personal relationship with Him) and will be spared from God’s wrath.  The faithful will be ready for the Lord’s return because they are alert and self-controlled, living in faith, love and purity (1 Thessalonians 5:4-9).
  4. Faithful believers will be rescued from this “coming wrath” (1Thessalonians 1:10) through the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:9) when He comes to take the faithful people (His church) back to heaven with Him (1 Thessalonians 4:17; John 14:3; Revelation 3:10).
  5. The day of the Lord will end with Christ’s millennial (thousand-year) reign of peace on earth and will bring time as we know it to a close (Revelation 20). The “day” will actually end following Christ’s millennial kingdom (Revelation 20:4-10) and the final judgment of the wicked (Revelation 21:15). Then the new heaven and new earth will be established (2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21:1).
  6. For God’s enemies, “the day of the Lord” means terrible destruction and judgment; but for God’s faithful people, it means rescue and reward.

CAUGHT UP … IN THE CLOUDS

1 Thessalonians 4:17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so, we will be with the Lord forever.

CAUGHT UP … IN THE CLOUDS

The words “caught up” are a translation of the Greek harpazo. The lain equivalent of that word is raptu (to be “caught away” or “caught up”), from which we get the word “rapture.” The event, described here and also in 1 Corinthians 15, refers to the time when Christ will take His faithful followers from the earth “to meet the Lord in the air.” This experience will involve only those who are part of Christ’s true church – His faithful followers worldwide.

TO WAIT FOR HIS SON FROM HEAVEN

December 18-Start Your Day Right Devotion

Picture
1 Thessalonians 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead – Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.

TO WAIT FOR HIS SON FROM HEAVEN

The great hope of the Thessalonian Christians was Jesus’ return to rescue them from “the coming wrath” – God’s judgment on the earth and punishment on those who do not accept Him.
  1. A true spiritual conversion to a life of faith in Christ involves
  1. Turning from sin, which is our own rebellious ways
  2. Turning to God in complete surrender, with the anticipation of Christ’s return for those who remain faithful to Him (1 Thessalonians 2:9). Waiting for Christ implies an ongoing expectation of His coming and a readiness for that time.
  1. “The coming wrath” refers to the future judgment on the earth that occurs during the tribulation period. However, followers of Christ need not fear, for God is sending Jesus back to save us from that time of wrath (God’s justified anger and punishment for defying Him Revelation 3:10).
This is the first reference in 1 Thessalonians to Christ’s return, when He comes to take His faithful followers from the earth to be with Him in heaven (John 14:3); the other passages are 1 Thessalonians 2:19; 3:13; 4:17; 5:1-11, 23.

    Book of Micah Bible Study

    $14.00

Here at Tailspin Farms Life in Grace Bible Study series we are starting the book of MICAH!

The book of MICAH is from the Old Testament.

The book of Micah contains many warnings of doom and prophecies of hope.

In this study on Micah I hope to provide an overview and lessons we can learn from the book of Micah.

The prophet Micah was from the small town of Moresheth Gath in southern Judah, a productive agricultural area about 25 miles southwest of Jerusalem.

Like Amos, he came from the rural countryside, probably from a family of humble status. While the prophet Isaiah was in Jerusalem addressing the king and international affairs,

Micah was a country prophet who was deeply sensitive to the social issues that affected the small towns and villages throughout Judah.

Habakkuk is a minor prophet, and this book is unique from the other prophets in that instead of the prophet speaking God's Word to the people, it records Habakkuk's personal dialogue with God.

When I read this book, about a week ago, I felt that I needed to share HABAKKUK with you.

Let's be honest with each other we have all questioned God and perhaps His existence in our life.

There is so much evil and injustice that exists in the world, Does God Care?

Here at Tailspin Farms Life in Grace Bible Study series we are starting the book of ZEPHANIAH!

The book of ZEPHANIAH is from the Old Testament. It only has 3 chapters.

The book of Zephaniah contains Destruction and Salvation / The Day of the LORD

In this study on Zephaniah I hope to provide an overview and lessons we can learn from the book of Zephaniah.

Zephaniah, whose name means "the LORD hides," was a great-great-grandson of King Hezekiah of Judah and prophesied during the reign of Josiah (639-609B.C.), Judah's last godly ruler (Zephaniah 1:1). Zephaniah's reference to Jerusalem as "this place" (Zephaniah 1:4), as well as his detailed description of Jerusalem's landscape and its sins, supports the belief by scholars that he lived in this city.

Join the study to learn so much more.

NOTE: THIS IS A DIGITAL DOWNLOAD ONLY AND DOES NOT INCLUDE A PHYSICAL COPY OF THE BIBLE STUDY.

THEME / PURPOSE: Rebuilding the Temple: Obedience to God Brings the Strength of His Spirit.

Haggai is the first of three prophetic books in the Old Testament (Haggai, Zachariah and Malachi) written after many of God’s people had returned from exile throughout what was, at that time, the Persian Empire (based on narratives in Ezra and Nehemiah the initial return of exiles to Jerusalem)...

A book containing a message of trust, commitment, and work.

    It involves a practice of:

    • meditation
    • prayer
    • and offerings

that should be done on a day to day basis to fix God in the very center of our life in order to maintain that place of peace and rest.

A place that many of us venture out into the world to find, not realizing the work of the temple begins with us, inside.
