DO NOT PUT OUT THE SPIRIT’S FIRE

May 4 - Start Your Day Right Devotion

Picture
1 Thessalonians 5:19 Do not put out the Spirit’s fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt.

Do Not Put Out The Spirit's Fire

  1. Paul equates despising and rejecting the expressions of the Holy Spirit in the church with putting out the Spirit’s fire. Paul encourages the believers to let the Spirit operate through people by His spiritual gifts (God-given abilities and empowerments to benefit the church), such as the gift of prophecy. This special gift enables a Christian to deliver a message or revelation directly from God under the impulse and prompting of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 14:24-25, 29-31). For any of God’s people, to repress or reject the orderly use of prophecy or other spiritual gifts can result in the loss of the Holy Spirit’s activity among a group of believers (1 Corinthians 12:7-10, 28-30).
  2. These two verses clearly teach us that churches in the first century commonly experienced spiritual gifts in public worship (Hebrews 2:4). Notice that although prophetic messages were not to be automatically rejected as unacceptable, they were to be evaluated carefully and supervised properly by the standard of God’s Word before the were received as a genuine message from God (1 Thessalonians 5:21; 1 Corinthians 14:29).

LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT

April 13 - Start Your Day Right Devotion

Picture
1 Thessalonians 5:2 For you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

Like A Thief In The Night

The “day of the Lord” normally does not refer to a 24-hour day, but rather to an extended period of time when God’s enemies are overthrown (Isaiah 2:12-21; 13:9-16; 34:1-4; Jeremiah 46:10; Joel 1:15 – 2:11, 28; 3:9, 12-17; Amos 5:18-20; Zechariah 14:1-3), followed by Christ’s earthly reign (Zephaniah 3:14-17; Revelation 20:4-7).
  1. This “day” begins following the rapture of the church when Christ’s followers will be taken suddenly from the earth to escape the end-time judgments to come to the world (1 Thessalonians 5:3). The period of those judgments – referred to as the “great tribulation” – is included within the day of the Lord (Revelation 6 – 19; Revelation 6:1). This time of widespread distress and judgment ends with Christ’s literal return to earth to defeat the forces of the antichrist and destroy all of God’s enemies (Joel 1:14; 2:30-31; Zephaniah 1:7; Revelation 16:16; 19:11-21).
  2. The day of the Lord will occur at a time when people are hoping for peace and safety (1 Thessalonians 5:3).
  3. The “day” will not come as a surprise to faithful believers – “like a thief in the night” - because they have accepted Christ’s salvation (His forgiveness, new life, and a personal relationship with Him) and will be spared from God’s wrath. The faithful will be ready for the Lord’s return because they are alert and self-controlled, living in faith, love, and purity (1 Thessalonians 5:4-9).
  4. Faithful believers will be rescued from this “coming wrath” (1 Thessalonians 1:10) through the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:9) when He comes to take the faithful people (His church) back to heaven with Him (1 Thessalonians 4:17; John 14:3; Revelation 3:10).
  5. The Day of the Lord will end with Christ’s millennial (thousand-year) reign of peace on earth and will bring time as we know it to a close (Revelation 20). The “day” will actually end following Christ’s millennial kingdom (Revelation 20:4-10) and the final judgment of the wicked (Revelation 20:11-15). Then the new heaven and new earth will be established (2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21:1).
  6. For God’s enemies, “the day of the Lord” means terrible destruction and judgment; but for God’s faithful people, it means rescue and reward.

BREASTPLAT … HELMET

March 25 - Start Your Day Right Devotion

Picture
1 Thessalonians 5:8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

Breastplate ... Helmet

A breastplate was a large piece of armor that protected the chest of a soldier during battle. Having “faith and love as a breastplate” means that a loving and trusting relationship with Christ and a life that shows His love to others will protect one’s spiritual heart. Having the “hope of salvation as a helmet” (Ephesians 6:13) implies that a believer’s mind would be protected by the assurance of being spared from God’s wrath and spending eternity with Christ. This same confidence should allow us to stay focused on Christ’s return, be self-controlled and be at peace while we wait for Him.

HOW HOLY, RIGHTHEOUS AND BLAMELESS WE WERE

OCTOBER 18 - START YOUR DAY RIGHT DEVOTION

HOW HOLY, RIGHTHEOUS AND BLAMELESS WE WERE
Paul does not accept the misguided view of some Christians who believe that the sin-covering sacrifice of Christ is sufficient for us to receive forgiveness but not sufficient enough to totally free us from the continued control of sin. This unbiblical teaching encouraged believers to accept sin as a natural part and an acceptable influence in the Christian life. Paul pleaded for them to look at his own life as an example that this is not true.
  1. He begs them to remember his own conduct among the Thessalonians; he was “holy, righteous and blameless”. In other words, he showed complete moral purity and spiritual integrity. He did what was right and behaved in such a way that no one could justly accuse him of wrongdoing.
  2. Paul called both the church and God Himself as witnesses that God’s grace (His unearned favor, love, and spiritual enablement) provided enough motivation and power to purify himself “from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God” (2 Corinthians 1:12; 2:17; 6:3-10; 7:1; 1 Thessalonians 1:5; 2 Timothy 1:3). This does not mean that Christians will never sins, but they do not have to sin; God’s power is always sufficient for us to overcome and remain free from sin if we rely on Him and follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

    The Gospel of Matthew

he Word Gospel. The first book of the English Bible that most of us read from is the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew is the first of the four gospel writings, yet there is only one gospel about Jesus Christ and there are four different writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The word "Gospel" means "good news", and the good news is about Jesus Christ dying on the cross and then 3 days later conquering death and rising from the dead, offering salvation to all mankind, this is the Gospel.

I hope you that you'll participate in this 15-week series.

Matthew has 28 chapters. For the in-depth study the 154-page eBook will help with your study.

    Book of Micah Bible Study

    $14.00

Here at Tailspin Farms Life in Grace Bible Study series we are starting the book of MICAH!

The book of MICAH is from the Old Testament.

The book of Micah contains many warnings of doom and prophecies of hope.

In this study on Micah I hope to provide an overview and lessons we can learn from the book of Micah.

The prophet Micah was from the small town of Moresheth Gath in southern Judah, a productive agricultural area about 25 miles southwest of Jerusalem.

Like Amos, he came from the rural countryside, probably from a family of humble status. While the prophet Isaiah was in Jerusalem addressing the king and international affairs,

Micah was a country prophet who was deeply sensitive to the social issues that affected the small towns and villages throughout Judah.

I invite you to go through this Bible Study with me.

    Thank you,

    Margarita
