BLOOD OF THE COVENANTChrist's blood was shed (He gave His life through death on the cross) to pay the penalty for our sins and provide the opportunity for forgiveness and spiritual salvation (a restored, renewed and eternal relationship with God). His death on the cross established a new covenant, or "life agreement," between God and all who receive Christ as Savior and Lord - the Forgiver of their sins and Leader of their lives (Jeremiah 31:31-34; Jermiah 31:33; Jermiah 31:34). Those who repent (admit and turn from their own sinful way) and turn to God through faith in Christ will be forgiven, freed from the power of sin and Satan and given a new spiritual life. As a result, they become children of God, receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and have access to God at any time in order to receive mercy, strength and help (Matthew 26:28; Hebrews 4:16; Hebrews 7:25).
