March 23-Start Your Day Right Devotion Luke 24:49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” WHAT MY FATHER HAS PROMISED This promise that would bring “power from on high” refers to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit (when God generously sent His Spirit to fill and empower His followers) that began at Pentecost (Acts 1:4; Acts 2:4). We find this promise recorded in the Old Testament (Isaiah 32:15; 44:3; Ezekiel 39:29; Joel 2:28) and in the New Testament (John 14:16; John 14:17; John 14:26; John 15:26; John 16:7; Acts 1:4; Acts 1:5; Acts 1:8; Acts 2:33, Acts 2:38; Acts 2:39). The disciples devoted themselves to united and continued prayer as they waited for the fulfillment of the promise (Acts 1:14). Christ’s followers today who desire the baptism in the Holy Spirit should do the same. After all, we need the same power and direction as they did in the early New Testament church to spread Christ’s message and do His work in our own communities and throughout the world.
